OT - Good Sam Travel Assist

Anyone out there have the Good Sam Travel Assist for illness or injury on the road? It's supposed to cover medical evacuation, return of your RV or boaterhome to home, getting a family member to you if you're solo, etc. I don't have details of the policy, but for $80 a year, this sounds reasonable.

I don't have the Good Sam--and it will be as good as the insurance company, and how the policy is written. Good Sam is just a purveyor, not the insurer.

Many of the RVers prefer the policy from Family Motor Coach Association: It comes with the membership ($80 a year).

I am just beginning to look into RVing as a travel mode. This sounds like the people version of the AAA RV Plus membership. Interesting. Thanks for sharing this one.

I am considering a motor home that will pull my 22. WOW, is this opening a can of worms. Sounds like a full time retirement project narrowing down, narrowing down, narrowing down, narrow...........

Think I'll go for a boat ride.

We bought a LIL Snoozy .com fiberglass travel trailer its 18 ft and weighs about 2500lb .it has all the comforts of home A/C,Fridge ,microwave ,shower and toilet Great for sleeping .We wanted a smaller trailer .Our cc-23 weighs 5000lb and its more of a chore and not as nice to sleep on . We still use the boat for single overnights and day tripping but no long stays .We looked at the sprinter ,and VW Winnebago's but decided to go with trailer same mpg and no need to pull up stakes to go into town .
RV ing is like boating you meet nice people and its very relaxing .JIm

Have been looking at a Safari Trek and found out that there is an owners group that are as dedicated to their RV's as the C-Brats are, and their manufacture is gone now. Sounds like a nice group of folks, and their site, Trek Tracks, has tons of stuff from technical to social too.

The little trailer does make some good sense though, no additional engine to maintain.

First C-Brat gathering we did on the Cumberland River was I think in about 2004 ish (have to go back and look at pictures). We hosted it at Mom's and we have done 4-5 of them so who attended which one kinda melds together. But what I remember is folks showing up at the Corps launch area... winds constant 10-15 gusting now and then to the 25-30... some rain tossed in for kicks and giggles. Most that attended had road miles on them. Bill and El from CO, Frog from CA, maybe Joel SEA#PO?... Well, all we were going to do was launch and go up river about 3 miles to Mom's dock, provision the boats, and of course...take good long hot showers and a big ol breakfast. We always seem to eat well. I really did not want to launch 4-6 boats in these conditions as the wind was blowing for the most part straight up the ramp which would blow the boats right back up against the trailer if now powered off with the motor..... slick ramps from the moss... folks helping folks they have not helped before. In my mind it was about to be a mix of herding cats and trying to play baseball in a hurricane with lines. Thankfully, as we were attempting for about the 3rd time to put canvas back up in the cockpit of boat launch # 1... I tossed it out we should just hunker down on the boats on the trailer at Moms...I think Bill and El said nice campground with pull thru spaces, restaurant, a community building with fireplace 5 miles east of Hwy 109. None of us wanted to attempt the launch...so it took about 20 -30 seconds for us all to get in our individual tow vehicles and get going. We had a blast! The water was rising so fast there was only one lane of spaces that was not under water...we come pulling in on boats, folks start asking what we know that they don't... some RV/Campers/Trailers changed sites or just pulled up by the community building which was high ground. So, check to be sure you get flood insurance on the boat.

All kidding aside, this is a great topic...and insurance is a necessary evil that just pains me to shop for and screw around with. Again, nice to have a diverse base of folks looking to the same needed product.

Just a story to show why travel insurance is necessary. A friend was on a trip to Europe. He had a stroke/siezure/?encephalitis. Three weeks in a German Hospital was over $100,000. The Air Ambulance to the Seattle area was $120,000. Travel insurance covered it all, plus refund of their first class airfares, someone in the town who spoke English to check on my friend and his wife each day.

Of course this is different than a situation in the US--but costs can add up. Be sure that you know exactly what the insurance covers.

I really like the idea of pulling a CD22 with a small motorhome. My late Uncle Don (Don Anderson, not really my uncle) was very high on the LazyDaze low profile Class C motorhomes. He also said they were the "C-Dory" of motorhomes. Take a look here. If Patty did not need a CD25 and a 30' fifth wheel, this is probably what I would have purchased! Not blaming Patty of course, I am a willing co-conspirator in our CD25 and Fox Mountain fiver!

there's TONS out there. The last iteration into the mix is a small pull behind trailer, and not need to change tow vehicles. The MH would pull the 22, whichever one I go with. I am also considering just pulling the boat and do the boater-homing version for a while. I like the size of the Lazy Daze, but as with most of the mh's that size I have to get past the Ford under the hood. (I know that is a personal thing, so working on that.)

Currently I am going back and forth between gas or diesel, pusher or C class.

Getting back to the insurance topic. I just found out that my BoatUS membership did not include trailer towing. Just added that for the $14.95 annual. Now I have towing on the water or land for vehicle, boat and trailer. If it really works, I'll never need it Laughing
