Hi There,
I'm pulling out my 2006 Tomcat for the first time since I took ownership of it in October. If I remember, there where zincs on the hull. I wanted to replace them but cant find any detail on what type of zinc anode to buy or how to go about changing them.

Any advice?

There are no hull Zincs on the TC. The Zincs are on the engines, where the possibility of corrosion lies. I had Honda's which had 3 Zincs. Check your manual for Suzuki's Zinc location. Everything in the boat which uses the 12v ground system is protected through the engine ground and Zincs.

I'm sure I saw a metal plate under each hull in the back. Could that be something else?

If you have trim tabs, the "planes" (the part that is like an airplane wing flap) are metal plates of a sort, and they often have anodes mounted on them (in salt water the anodes would likely be zinc).

There are also things like sintered bronze plates for radios and such, but you'd be unlikely to have two (whereas the trim planes/zincs would be a pair).

(I don't know the TC specifically though.)

Westie
Expect to find 2 round clamshell anodes on the underside of the engine bracket as Armstrong rec'd. Access the hex bolt from the access plates on the top of the bracket with ahex wrench and the 2 halves will come apart. Armstrong said put some sealant around the hole to keep seawater from filling bracket. Google round Martyr hex anode to see parts.
Cheers!

As John has inferred, I believe that Westie is referring to the bracket and not the hull persay. The bracket is made of aluminum and has an anode on each side.

hey Westie,

Martyr Anodes is a great company in Canada that specializes in the right anodes for every type of condition imaginable. Here's their web page:
http://www.martyranodes.com/
Check out their tech data regarding the right anode for your situation and you'll see that Zinc is NOT always the best route to take (depending on the type of water you are boating in). Additional specific info on zinc, magnesium, and aluminum anodes is available at: http://www.martyranodes.com/resources/marketing-literature

If you have tech questions, their people are very helpful and down to earth. They love to talk to customers. Good luck.
DG

Thanks for the feedback. I pulled the boat out on Dec 30th and there were anodes on the hulls. I didn't take pictures but they were definitely there and in great shape. I dont have the previous owners contact info but they must have added this on at some point.

In any regard, I love this boat!
