Your ordor comes with fried antenna (GPS)

Has anyone ever had problems with the GPS screen telling them " waiting for GPS antenna ".
I have the Garmin 2006 C and have talked with the Garmin folks and the folks at West Marine about the message waiting for GPS antenna. Garmin said to reset the thing by holding down on the start and quit buttons at the same time. -- no help
West Marine said the antenna may be fried from the radar beams.
Looking to solve the problem without leaving my other arm and leg at West Marine. Cry

Recently got a "No GPS" message. Antenna is fried. I'm presently looking at up grades (i.e. Garmin 198C)

My friend recently bought a $1k chartplotter that kept getting that message. We were positive that the antanne was fried. We went to fishermans marine where we bought it and asked if we could test it with their demo unit. The kid behind the counter didn't know squat but by an unbelievable stroke of luck a customer over heard us and had the same issue. Seems the manual does a poor job of explaining how to run power to the unit. We assumed that once you hooked the gps up to the power cables that the antenna would then be supplied with power but it need to be hooked to power as well. All the wires were there but it wasn't clear at first what some of them did. It then worked fine.

Thanks for the input Flapbreaker but the power is the first thing I checked and all was good. This unit has three years of service and has worked fine until now. What part of Oregon are you from?
Bob from CHEERS looks like it is a fried GPS antenna and West Marine will be getting some little part of my body again.
We are putting together a trip to the San Juans again this year and GPS is a good thing to have working. Being retired I hate to give up any nickels and dimes I don't need to.
What is with the Milwallkee"s Best?

Good luck. I just purchased a Lowrance LMS-337C DF GPS/Sonar at Rogers Marine. Found the best price at Brokenlegdaves.com and they matched it. Looks like a good unit. Will start removal of old stuff ind installation of new tomorrow.

I thought about getting my antenna repaired but since my Fishfinder also died on me last summer, I thought an upgrade was in order.
