Has anyone used the POP Yachts International folks selling boats. They make things all sound good and well, but I've never used a broker before.
Any thoughts would be welcome. _________________ You can tell a man his wife is ugly, but never ever criticize his dog, his gun, his truck or his boat.

I would watch out for POP yachts. They don't advertise your boat on all the websites like yachtworld, boat trader and boats.com which is where most people will look for boats. Also more than half the time the salesman who is the listing agent on your boat will be states away. Those are all just things to watch out for. But if through POP yachts you have something else arranged, I would say go for it. |

Thanks for the comments. After looking on line, I think they are pretty legit, but I've always been able to sell my cars, boats, etc. on line myself in the past. I think I'd be pretty desperate to use such a broker. I'm fortunately NOT in a desperate situation with my boat. Just looking to down size to a good day boat rather than true cruiser and one what will hold more than a couple of people for those day trips. My days of being out on the water for days at a time are over, but my boating days are definitely not over. So, I'll wait and see what C-brats and other private seller lists will bring over the next few months and into spring. |

I am a retired yacht broker and have heard several nightmare stories about them, I wouldn't use a brokerage that didn't list my boat on Yachtworld. Just my .02 worth. |

I was very interested in one particular C-Dory that was listed by POP Yachts when I was seriously boat shopping. The only option I could find to get more information or get in contact with anyone was to "sign up for" it. Um, no thanks, I'm the one about to spend my money. Why should I sign up with POP Yachts when I can see photos and ads here, on Craigslist, on Yachtworld, etc. easily and freely. Usually a company is trying to make it easier for a buyer, not harder. I never did get to see that boat, and I almost wished I could contact the owners to say "Did you know that I would love to have looked at and likely bought your boat, but your selling agent made it too much of a pain?"
A friend had a similar experience, and a similar reaction when he saw a boat he was very interested in that was listed by POP. |

They are not a good choice as they have a bunch of kids that know little or nothing about boats and are scamming for listings that you cant get out of .I am not a big fan of brokers in general, they are mostly in it for the quick buck.Service or advice after the sale is usually not there. I might be a bit biased but why not use a reputable and knowledgeable C Dory dealer ?

I have talked to their "brokers" several times. I have seen boats posted in their ads, where the owner did not know that it was posted. I would not fool with them. There are many good yacht brokers who will give you good service. I would not sell a both thru them, nor buy a boat thru them. _________________ Bob Austin

Yes. I've talked to Wefings and if I did brokerage I might do it with them. But I've had good luck with cars and boats and aircraft doing things on my own. I suspect there is someone out there wanting to move up in size and with a trade that will get them into a nice c dory and keep me boating in a more suitable boat. I may even talk myself out of it altogether by next year. |
