Hi All,
I just spent quite a bit of time writing a post here then lost it! I hate it when that happens! I don't have time now to rewrite the whole thing, so you'll get the condensed version.
My dad (Dusty) suffered a subdural hematoma on Aug 30th, likely the result of 3 or so falls that he had in the weeks prior to that (none of them resulting in broken bones). He was airlifted from our local hospital to Swedish Hospital in Seattle where they have a world class neurology team. He underwent surgery that evening and they removed the hematoma (7cm long, 1.5cm thick, deflecting the brain 8mm). They gave his chance of survival, based on the rule-of-thumb that the mortality rate is equal to the patient's age, as 6%. He made it through the surgery in good shape and was released to a rehab center (for PT and OT work) four days later.
There's more to the story but about two weeks ago he got home and is now doing well. His speech is still slurred a bit and he has to work to form his words but his mind is sharp and he's getting better every day. He's been getting Home Health Care but now is ready to transfer to outpatient services.
Here's the (potentially) hard part...please don't PM or email him. If everyone that cares about him writes he's going to be totally overwhelmed. He's having some vision issues so reading isn't all back yet (though, again, that's getting better too). He's also kind of a private guy and would rather not be in the limelight. He probably won't be happy with me posting this but I'm getting too many emails asking about him and I'd rather post the news here than have it come a different way.
If you want to send a card or write, please send it in care of me (Les Lampman, Jr) at:
E.Q. Harbor Service
265 Cornet Bay Road
Oak Harbor, WA 98277
I don't want to publish his home address on a public forum and I won't be able to answer everyone writing to ask me for the address.
Take care,
Les
EDIT:
If you want to post your hellos and/or well-wishes here I'll try to show them to my dad on his computer screen. _________________ Les

Say Hi to Dusty from me. Also remind him that he invited me to his 100th birthday party. Given that I have that already marked down on my calendar, I damn well expect him to make it AT LEAST that far! 6% applies to normal humans and we all know Dusty ain't normal. Best of luck to him in having a speedy recovery. _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

I know I haven't met you personally, YET - I have stopped by the shop more than once but we seem to miss each other every time I do. I have however spoke to you during my searches and you have always made yourself available through phone or our forum here. When we sought out our first CD you were one of their best supporters. The passion you have for boating certainly helped us make the first right decision when purchasing.
Your efforts to make boating more of what it should be has always been such an asset. I will continue to look forward to the day we both will meet, maybe if I catch you at the right time share a beverage and share some stories.
My family will pray for a quick recovery. Please let us know if you need anything from this community. We are here for you in anyway we can.
Best wishes,
The Shillams |

Even the miracles of modern medicine are enhanced when the subject is made of the stuff Dusty is. Prayers for a speedy and full recovery.
