Ok so I'm probably not the first person to think of this but I think the perfect c-dory would be a 25' Angler model. Basically it would have the cabin layout of the 22' cruiser maybe extended by one foot and that should leave about 6 feet of open deck area. That would be a great fishing platform. What do you think? |

Sorry, but having fished out of both the CD22 and the CD25, I think not. The raised cockpit floor in the CD25 is a big minus for fishing. Standing below the waterline in the CD 22 is so much better. Better control, safer, and much more natural feeling. No doubt about it. That is the one thing I miss most about my 22, and like the least in the 25.
I know at least one guy has inquired about having C-Dory build a CD25 without the self bailing deck. I am guessing that the raised deck has some structural strength properties that the design engineers felt were needed in the wider, heavier hull. It's purpose is much more than just hiding the gas tank, and if it could be built without it they surely would be willing to do it.
Did you buy that boat?? _________________ TyBoo Mike

Any idea what the floor boards are /will be like in the new Tom Cat? I know it is suspose to have alot of similiar features to the C-Dory 25. |

I assume it is self bailing just like the TC24 and that your knees are about level with the top of hull in the cockpit as opposed to below it like in the CD22 so Mike's concerns with the TC are the same as he has with his 25.
However, given that the rail on all 3 boats (CD25, TC24 and new TC) is there to keep you inside and that the TC are so stable (relative to a mono-hull), I'm not sure Mike's concern about being an extra 12-18" higher translates to the TC (he was commenting on the 25). Seems to me that with a long handled net, the fishing capability would be no worse. However, I can see some potential difficulties in getting fish around the bracketed motors and over to the side to net. I gladly trade that though for more room to work crab pots etc...

I think Mike hit it right on the mark with his comments about the self bailing cockpit placing a fisherman too close to a swim. When we were deciding between the 22 and the 25, that was a factor that influenced our decision to go with the 22. |
