Gary, you asked this question in the other thread and this is my answer there:
Quote: | Any of the standard anchors will work well there. A 14" Delta, one of the Ronca, Mantus or Manson Supreme's in the similar size will work. A Fortress FX 7 is also a possible choice.
What is the bottom like where you will be anchoring most of the time? I see you are PA. Lakes or Salt water? How much fetch will there be? |
Any of the anchors will work well in sand. My personal experience with the "Bruce" or "Claw" is that there are better anchors in sand. The #1 in sand would be the Danforth type--HT Danforth. The Fortress is the same pattern, and today better built than the Danforth. But since it is aluminum, it is slightly tricker to set. Avoid knock offs of the good anchors. For example the "hooker" or any sheet metal variant. You want an anchor with the "T" shape on the inside of the flukes (by the shank) and a sharp edge on the outside of the flukes. _________________ Bob Austin

Thataway & others.....I have a Fortress FX7 & it absolutely will hit the bow before it’s even close to the anchor roller. Do I need a different anchor roller? Do you have pics of your anchor or other anchors in the anchor roller? |

You want to be sure that the flukes are away from the boat. Once it is in the roller the flukes should clear the bow. I Have a 25 currently, but yes, the flukes could hit the bow if you were not careful.. I happen to use a Delta 25#, but would use a Ronca or similar if the boat didn't already have the Delta. I have used the Fortress for stern anchors on both 22's and 25's. (I have 2 of the 7# and one of the 11# Fortress--the best for mud and sand. |

Check Thataway's posts. There is a step by step guide somewhere here that shows how to install a protective plate on the bow to protect against the anchor flukes damaging the gelcoat. I did it on my boat and it works well.
The images start here:
There is thread that gives detailed instructions. |
