I have a CD22 and am planning a trip to the Bahamas this fall. I have been on the net, but am unable to find a marina with ramp and SECURE parking area to leave my truck/trailer for a few weeks. If anyone familiar with the Miami area could suggest such a marina, I would greatly appreciate the info.

Try looking at Active Captain. I found a good place on Lake Erie that way. Lots of places to launch in the MIA/FLL area. Secure storage might be a problem, especially for a few weeks.

There are a number of places, both in the water or out of the water.
Start with Miami Beach Marina, then try a couple of places in Crandon Park ( near Key Biscayne), there is also Dinner Key and Matheson Hammock.

Enjoy the bay...!!!

My personal choice would be to avoid the Miami area, because of traffic, security and high prices. I would be looking North such as the Lake Worth area. Of course where you are departing from somewhat depends on where you want to go to in the Bahamas.

Google "Active Captain, Marina, launch ramp and xxxx area"--that will give you good reviews, and then give the places a call to check on storage.

The later in the fall the more likely you are to have a Norther--wind against current can really be nasty in a C Dory crossing the Gulf Stream. You already know about Hurricane season. The best time is May to July for calm weather.

Plan is to run out of Miami to Cat Cay and across to Nassau, down to the Exumas, etc. That is why I prefer a Miami launch, but I might have to launch elsewhere and coast down. Indiantown is a secure launch, but is a ways off. But then what's the hurry.

Thanks to all. I will get back on the net and check out your suggestions.

Good point. Going in the Fall for a lengthy visit is a bad idea. My ultimate target is to attend the Out Island Regatta held in Georgetown next April. Crossing the stream, is always about waiting for a weather window, be it summer or winter. Northers can be pretty rough even while you are in the islands, but I don't do hurricanes.

Me being in the islands in hurricane season is as sure to raise a storm as a trailer park in Kansas. I wouldn't want to be the cause of that.

You might try the Homestead area and then cruise north to Miami before going across.

We have stayed at the Dinner Key marina. They have a ramp and you can walk to stores etc. Coconut Grove is a decent area. Dinner Key Marina 3400 Pan American Drive Coconut Grove Fl. 33133 Phone 305 579 6980. There is fuel about three miles away as noted on Active Captain.
Safe travels
