Tomorrow we leave Wisconsin heading to Alaska via our Winnebago View motorhome. I'll drive to Fairbanks over the next 10 days and the family will fly in to Fairbanks. From there we'll make our way down to Juneau over about 3 weeks where the family will fly home and I'll continue on via the Alaska Marine Highway ferry stopping in Sitka, Wrangell, Ketchikan, Prince Rupert. From there I'll drive to Vancouver where my wife will fly back in. We will then pull the CD22 out of storage and head to the San Juan's with some neighbors for a couple of weeks.

Can't wait to get on the road.

We purchased a Delorme Inreach SE in order to allow our parents and anyone else interested in following us. Here is the link to follow us here:

Robert, it you give me a call when you retrieve your CD22 from storage about half a mile from our house, we would love to have you come over for a drink and dinner.

How many rod holders are on those Alaska ferry boats? It seems like a shame to just ride across such good fishing water without a line in it.

We're going to be in the same parts of Alaska at around the same time. We'll definitely keep an eye out for a Winnebago with Wisconsin plates! Too bad neither of us will have our C-Dorys with us...

Boondocking tonight at the Portage RR depot on the Kenai Peninsula. Having a great time.

On the drive from Anchorage we saw 4 C-Dory's being towed on the road headed the opposite direction in a 20 mile stretch. Barely have seen that many on the road total ever. Looks like some great cruising area.

One of these C-dorys could have been us on return from 4 days in PWS. Make sure you visit Whittier, and if you have the means do the 26 glacier tour. Enjoy summer solstice in Alaska.

Sounds like you are having a great time Robert. We are enjoying the San Juans now ourselves. Someday I'd like to make that inland passage trip! Colby

Dry camping on the harbor in Seward. Had dinner watching the seemingly endless 'C-Doryish' looking fishing boats come back into harbor. Then went down to watch them cut up the many halibut and what ever else they caught. Great $15 campsite right on the water overlooking the mountains.

Saw a few C-Dory's in the marina.

Tomorrow planning to hike the Harding Icefields Trail.

Just read the rest of this thread again, and remember you were driving the motorhome this time, rather than the boat. Wink That is a beautiful trip you are taking. Some time ago we drove along part of that route, and I remember staying in a campground in Seward, just can't remember the name of it. It was one of the very few places we stayed more than one night (we stayed two) as we were doing the round trip from Wisconsin in a month. (9000 + miles...) Beautiful country! Too bad we didn't end up in the San Juans at the same time. We've had a great week here, but time for us to pull out tomorrow, spend a few days with my brother, then the long drive back home. Guess you and I missed all the fun weather back home last week!

Currently in Homer, AK watching all the fishing boats. Saw an orange striped C-Dory coming into the marina - didn't realize they made them orange, looked great.

Thanks for the info on the water taxi. We actually left Homer and are now camping in Whittier. Saw two CD25 being towed out as we came into Whittier. Have seen more cdory's on this trip than even our gulf island trip last year.

Loving all the variations of trailerable boats here in Whittier. Love the style with the mini pilot house - a few of them were Sea Sports.

Here is one :

Now that I've seen all the CD22 sized boats up here in Alaska, we'll be planning on getting our CD22 up here. Just a matter of how. The cruising areas look great plus maybe I could spend some money on fishing equipment and try some of that.

Hiking to Portage Glacier today. Nice sunny day so far.
