I am in the process of finishing up my interior window coverings and was wondering if anyone had placed a screen in the center opening window. My thoughts are that the other coverings will provide privacy around the docks and the center screen will allow for some privacy, but more importantly, added ventilation and keeping those mosquitos out. Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Grazer

When my wife made the window coverings for our TomCat, she made a screen for the center window. It involved snaps at the corners and some extra snaps to pull it snug around the adjusting mechanisms. The edges were bound with binding tape and the corners reinforced with Sunbrella. Not sure if I have photos but I'll look.

My 22 came with a screens/window-coverings package that included a screen for the opening center-front window in the main cabin. That said, I don't think I have a photograph of it (I could get one, but not right away). It's got a Sunbrella border and a screened center portion and it snaps onto the window frame. There are special reinforced slits where the handles come through - so you can open and close the window while it is in place. I know... a photo would be the other 975 words...

I would probably remember the construction better but I haven't needed to use it yet - just put it in the window to try it out.

Grazer-

You may also be able get the type of ventilation you appear to be looking for by opening the front hatch, which can also have a screen cover attached.

One advantage of the hatch is that it can be adjusted from within the v-berth while in bed instead of having to get up and into the cabin to do so.

Just another thought!

We had snap on screen and privacy curtains made for ours, when we purchased the boat. If it was night, and there was a light in the pilothouse, I think we'd still have the wrong kind of company, but I'm sure it'd help a lot.

A Sunbrella "frame" with screen material in the middle; snaps to hold it in place. Same position as the solid Sunbrella covers, with additional snaps to hold it snug around the strut bases.

What at a dock, you can put the screen at the top of the window, with the solid cover at the bottom for airflow and privacy.

A Sunbrella/screen for the v-berth hatch is easier to use than the solid screen that comes with that hatch.

We have a Privacy curtain which snaps over the front of our windshield--so no privacy inside.

However, we made a very simple and cheap screen for both the foreword hatch, and forward opening window. We hot glued velcro all of the way around the "no See em" net we got from Army surplus. We got a full large tent cover for about $10--which is enough to do many screens. We then contact cemented the other velcro (the hooks) to the area around the window and hatch. there are small cutouts for the arm which supports the windows. (The hatch is entirely above the screen, including the supporting arms. Works great. If tomorrow is decent, I'll take some photos. The hot glue velcro holds up very well.

Joan found this photo that shows the screen on the center window...

Hope that helps.

Best wishes,
Jim

Thanks for all your replies. The photograph really helps in seeing what I imagined I would do. I still want to be able to stand up in the cabin at night and be able to see out over the bow. Now the challenge of fabrication.

Cheers,
Grazer
