Mr.Fish
Ya I chickened out myself.
I called a friend in Garibaldi, he said it was blowin 60 and the rain was comin down sideways. I've got an itch to get out on the boat. You got any plan for the near future? Weather premitting I could do an overnighter, ( no heat in the cabin).
I'm not set up for fishing but I'd like to catch some of those Columbia river Crabs. _________________ Terry, Ann & Chloe

You said you stayed at Cathlamet. Is Jim Mast still the harbor master there? I keep a sail boat moored there a few years back. Cathlamet is a great destination, maybe we can put together a gathering there next summer. |

Terry -
Yeah, you bet. A few of us do a Cathlamet trip or two every year. Usually one in the spring when the salmon are supposedly running, and one or two others later just for the fun of it. It's less than two hours upstream from me here in Warrenton, and about the same downstream for B~C. Helen O will just be able to walk down to the dock. Cheers will be there, one way or another. Same with Sea Lion. Last year we had Scorpion, Laurna Jo, Far West II, Primative, Sea Lion, Blue~C, Lynn Marie, TyBoo, and maybe a couple others all in there at once. Durn near filled the place up, but there would have been room for you and a few more, no problem.

Hi Ray,
Next time you are going out in the Columbia and need a deck hand give me a few days notice and I may just be able to get down there and go. I would need a refresher course as I have not have gone sturgeon fishing in a long time. What size hooks and lead weights would I have to bring?? _________________

Ray,
When do you think you are going to go out next? The fish are calling I can hear them! I am having withdrawls and need a fish fix. What do you hear about CR fishing? We have Blackmouth here and not too bad fishing. Just ask Larry about how we found them. Been trying to get out here but weather and fog not co-oprating with me right now. Have GPS and all but that doesn't help when there are so many nuts out there flying around the waterways. See you soon Lyle |

I talked to Jim Mast today when I paid my yearly boat launch fee for Cathlamet Harbor. Yes, he is still the Harbormaster there, great guy, has a small town friendliness about him.
Lyle & Ray. after Dec.31st you can retain Columbia River sturgeon below Bonneville. Until then it's catch & release. Looking forward to you coming down, Lyle. Kids & grandkids will be out of the spare bedroom after christmas. |

Heleno
Thanks for the warning. We spent a couple of years with a sailboat moored in Cathlamet. Nice little town but it was too far from home. Good luck fishing. When the weather warms up a bit and my schedule cools off it bit, I'll have to take a run up your way. |
