I sure hope none of our C-brats were cruising up there near Horseshoe Bay terminal.
The ferry basically ran over about 20 boats this morning! Some are still under the ferry.

Local news is saying at this point that there were no injuries at this point. There is a remote possibility that someone was asleep on one of the boats though. It sure is causing a traffic backlog as the terminal is shutting down and all traffic to Vancouver Island is being rerouted to Tswassen Terminal. Wow, Whatta story!!! Watched the video of it... We could have had similar disaster today in Commencement bay with the Tall Ships Parade... We were an Escort Boat for the Parade ,escorting the North Star of Herschel Island from Victoria ,B.C. We were outnumbered by pleasure craft oh, about 5,000 to 1..and no collisions or injuries ... but some choice words And lots of close calls ..All went well actually. we will be doing Escort duty for the next few days with the Bill of Rights and the Amazing Grace..However Good Job up there in B.C.!! _________________ Commodore Jim & Adm. My wife and I made that ferry crossing earlier in that week, before flying back to the east coast. I don't know if it was the same ferry, but that is scary. |

for those that didn't catch the news .... the accident was caused by a missing cotter pin ... a nut on the throttle linkage came off due to vibration it was missing a cotter pin ... this caused the engine to rev up and triggered a shut down automatically (built in safty system) .. wc |

We were in Active Passage (between Galiano and Mayne) last weekend when one of those big babies came charging through...those BC ferries don't dawdle...the rest of us kind of scurried for the edges. It would have been VERY INTERESTING if the ferry had lost control there...
