Dear All Channel Island Enthusiasts:

Due to overwhelming demand for this event, and the irresistible draw of Two Harbors, we hereby schedule the 13th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure for Sunday, August 3, 2014 to Saturday, August 9, 2014. Please mark your calendars to reserve these dates. These dates are essentially the same as last year.

Unlike the Delta and Bay Extravaganza, there are no boat number limits for this event. Also, unlike our other event, for this outing you can drop in, and out, at any time you want. The Extravaganza is a disciplined forced march, whereas this Off-Shore Adventure is a laid back Jimmy Buffett party.

Come one, and come all, but please sign up on this thread that you will be showing up. More information will be forthcoming.

As of now we have the following attendees:

1. M/V Pounder, C-Dory
2. M/V Islander, Duffy
3. M/V Dinner Belle II, C-Dory

The official dates for this event are listed above. However, because I am now retired, I may even stay an extra week to August 16th. More on this later.

Sincerely,
Jim and Kath

SEA3PO is planning on going....this time I think I will launch at Channel Islands and motor to Catalina....last year was too stressful.

Jimmy Buffett ? Does this mean that we all get to wear flowered shirts ? and dance around the fire ?

Missed it last year--- C-Hawk is ready to go. We'll be launching from Channel Islands Harbor.

MARCIA JANE is ready for Two Harbors and Marcia and I can't wait! Hopefully the "health" issues are all in the past and it's nothing but happy voyages for 2014.

We're going to launch and store the truck and trailer at Sunset Marina in Huntington Harbour. We could stay overnight there or cruise a short distance to Los Alamitos Bay, get a slip there and leave for Catalina the next morning.

This launching place is one of the "safer" places for storage that I'm aware of. I believe others have stated the same thing.

Great response for Catalina. We already have eight boats signed up for this Offshore Adventure, so that is fantastic.

Kent, you are right about changing the start launching place. I will try to figure out later coordinating the starting off logistics. I do agree that we should launch our boats and store our trucks and trailers at someplace else than MDR. Last year Bobbie had his Cummings diesel truck severely damaged in the MDR parking lot.

We will figure out the starting off logistics a little later.

Sincerely,

Jim and Kath

I didn't hear about the damage to vehicles at MDR last year. Was it isolated to one vehicle or were several broken into? What were they after? I can check with the Harbor Police Dept and find out more and how they plan to mitigate in the future. I prefer MDR beyond most other locations, been going there for 40+ yrs. Sorry to hear.

Steve,

Last year Bobby and Chris of Cora J came back to MDR with our group after a week at Two Harbors and we found their 3/4 Ton Dodge diesel broken into and the entire dash and wiring ripped out in an attempt to hot wire the truck and trailer. They had to rent a truck to take their rig back to Northern California and they had to come back to LA to get their truck fixed.

I expect they incurred several thousand dollars of unanticipated and uninsured repairs and they had much grief in this process after a fun week at Catalina. We all involved felt terrible for them and we vowed to be done with MDR and their lax ways of doing things.

Also, many of us have been ticketed at MDR for our truck and trailer parking, many times costing several hundred dollars because of unclear parking policies and procedures.

Most of us are now done with the entire place and the City of LA for their handling of this place. The overnight boat slip is fine there. It is just the crazy parking situation!

Jim

SEA3PO & C-HAWK will be cruising down from Channels Islands Harbor.
We leave early on Sunday morning and set the cruise at 14 - 16 knots and it is a nice 4 hour cruise to Two Harbors.
I have been ticketed at MDR (after following their directions) and will no longer use their parking/ramp.

Dear All:

Just an update for the Catalina Off-shore Adventure. Not everyone is using the sign up tab, which is fine, so I wanted to summarize the total sign-ups to-date for this event as follows:

1. Pounder - Jim and Kath
2. Islander - Ron et. al.
3. Dinner Belle II - John and Robbin
4. SEA3PO - Joel and Susan
5. C-Hawk - Roger and PJ
6. Far C'r - Floyd and Eiko
7. Marcia Jane - Kent and Marcia
8. Dora Jean - Steve et. al.
9. Gratitude - Jim et. al.

This is already a fantastic turnout for this classic and exotic event. I think some others that usually come will also likely sign up later.

More later.

I've missed this one every year! I'm putting it on the calendar this time. I'll be a first timer. I'll use the sign up sheet.
