Hi,
I've been looking in the albums trying to see where folks mount their downriggers but haven't been able to see any. It looks like they would have to me mounted aft of the railing?

Terry, the only 25 I know that has mounted downriggers is Larry on Helen O. I believe he has Scottys mounted on the rail. I am in the process of mounting my Scottys on the rail also. I am not sure I like this the best but mounting them aft seems like they would be a real pain to get to. Mounting them aft might also interfere with running the kicker.
If you have some other ideas I would love to here them.

Usually you want o mount your riggers as far aft as possible so that when you turn you keep the wires/line away from the prop. On my sled I have them mounted on the railing a little bit forward and it has worked out pretty well. I like having them up higher as it makes it easier to run them. I use Scotty Electrics on my boat. There is no way I would spend the money on manual riggers.

The brackets I purchased for my sled are made by a company called Offshore Systems. I think you can get similar ones from 3 Rivers Marine in Woodinville

I have the Scotty rail mounted 1106 with extendable boom mounted directly over the downward strut of the rail support. The 1106 comes with 1 downward support that keeps the downrigger from pivoting downward while fishing, I added another support on the inside to keep it from pivoting to the inside when it is raised. It's rock solid now.

Another thought, we have our Scottys mounted on Scotty gunnel mounts, forward of the rails, on our 25. The booms extend but we've not needed the additional length. No problems so far (one seasons use). They can be removed easily and quickly.

Thanks everybody, I really appreciate the tips and advise. We currently have a 2005 22 Crusier now and are prety sure we will be moving up to the 25. Gotta have downriggers! I have Scotty electric downriggers mounted on the gunales now and like them just fine. In looking at the 25's I could see the railing would prevent mounting on the same location as I have them now. Fred, I was looking at your album yesterday trying to see if you had mounted them on your new boat yet. The boat looks great!

Larry, are the rail mounted bases as easy romove and attach as the gunale mounted models? Thanks.

Terry,

If you can find the mounts I have on my sled they are by far the best mounts you can use. They allow you to simply lift the rigger out of the mount for storage leaving behind a flat square block on the rail. I'll try to take some pictures of them tonight when I get home from work.

Terry

The rail mounted downrigger mounts and dismounts just as easily as gunnel mounted. The base stays on the rail. Another reason I like the rail mounts better is because I didn't have to drill holes in the boat to mount it.

I made some rigger mounts for the Barrel O Monkeys - see the photo albums. Maybe some variation of this will work for your 25.

I've uploaded a couple of pictures of my downrigger mounts. They currently don't have the downriggers on them as I am going to keep them for the new boat. But you can see how the mounts work.

The angle bracket just slips into the pocket and the weight of the rigger holds it in place. I have had these on the sled for 5 years and used them a lot. They are really great.

Gary,
Those mounts look simple, strong, and durable! I think they would work well in any rail mount application. Thanks for taking the time to post the pictures.

These are by far the best mounts I have seen. They take little space when the riggers are off the boat and are so simple to slip the riggers in place when needed. I usually use locktite on the pivot bolt so that it doesn't come loose as I had that happen twice over the last 5 years. The new ones I have see even have a pin that can be used to lock the bracket in place.

I bought these from Outdoor Emporium in Seattle. However I don't think they sell them anymore. The only place I have seen them is at 3 Rivers Marine in Woodinville.

Gary,
I'm down at Outdoor Emporium about once a week. I'll check and see if they have them. Thanks again for the info I appreciate it.
