Come to the Canadian gathering (this year, Pender Harbour) and make it your two favourite outings of the year.

Anyone north of Nanaimo going to the Friday Harbor gathering? We are attending. Leaving Comox on the Thurs, overnight in the Gulf Islands, arrive FH lunch time Friday. Be fun to buddy up for the cruise south.

Following The Friday Harbor Gathering if JoLee is ok for it, we plan on wandering up toward the Broughtons for about a 6 week cruise with clearing customs in Canada at Victoria or Sidney & on the way back at Friday Harbor. We'd appreciate suggestions on a good launch site & truck & trailer storage for the Gathering & cruise.

I could use some help there too. I'm going to be launching single handed would it be best to find a sling launch or a ramp? Also wondering about storage for the truck and trailer.

Hi Jay and Jody

We launched our boat at Skyline Marina in Anacortes last Sept

http://www.skylinemarinecenter.com/

They have a sling and if I remember it was about $30 for launch. They also have a lot to park your rig, however there was no security but we had no issues.

We have used the ramp and long term storage at Squalicum Harbor in Bellingham. At that time (not sure if that is still offered), they had long term parking for truck and trailer at no charge. No security, but we have left our rig there a couple times with no problems. They have a good ramp for launching, with finger docks - it could be done singlehand with no issue.

There is also a sling launch available at Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes (closer to Friday Harbor), but there is a charge for daily storage. There are a couple storage lots in Anacortes (we have stored our trailer for several months at a time).

Jay,
We keep our boat at Skyline Marina, so we're there often. There is a sling launch and parking there.

The parking isn't fenced, but we and guests have parked there for weeks at a time and have had no problems. It's a pretty quiet area compared to either Bellingham or Cap Sante.

The biggest advantage of Skyline is its close proximity to the San Juan's. Depending on which pass you take, it's 15-16 miles from Skyline to Friday Harbor. Cap Sante on the other side of Anacortes is 21-22 miles and Bellingham is 27 miles from Friday Harbor. The distance doesn't really matter if you're staying for a while, but it can make a difference on a weekend if the weather takes a turn and you want to get back.

We usually take Lopez Pass to the inner part of the San Juan's. It's less than 5 miles across Rosario Strait from Burrows Bay to the entrance to Lopez Pass. After that you are in protected waters all the way to Friday Harbor.

Bellingham is a great town, but I don't like Bellingham Bay. It's a good place for a sailboat. I don't remember a time that I was crossing it when it wasn't windy and had an uncomfortable chop.
Lyle

This link goes to the price sheet for Skyline. Looks like it only handles boats 25 and under.

Yes, thanks all for the information & Tom that link to Skyline really helped along with a PM from Barry (C Cakes) on prices of truck & trailer storage at Deception Pass, Cornet Bay. If just going to Friday Harbor for a few days either one of those would be fine, but just storage of truck & trailer for $330 at Skyline or $450 at Deception Pass for 6 weeks makes the free parking & good facilities at Bellingham for me a winner even with the prospect of some chop.

Just an update. Thus far we have 42 boats coming. Another three brats have said they will be coming boatless. Friday evening's dinner will be at the Friday Harbor Grange hall. It will be BYOB. Debbie has said she will accommodate a children's menu and will add a salad main course to the previous menu. We will have USCG Auxiliary there to perform free vessel safety checks. West Marine is looking forward to hosting us on Saturday morning. Neptune has agreed to allow boat Christenings so please let me know if you would like your boat christened. Be sure to bring some greeneries and let me know the boat name and your family's names, that will help with the naming proclamation. The potluck will be, as usual, on Saturday afternoon. I'm starting the weather dance and will keep going until the event. Oh, and for the first time this gathering and the Pender Harbour gathering are listed on Pacific Yachtings list of upcoming events (page 16 of the April edition). See you there.

It is with a heavy heart that I have to cancel by Friday Harbor participation.
I work part time in Tonasket and the the logistics of getting the boat there when I have to work the week before and after is just too much.
Have a great time, I sure did last year.
