I can't tell you, but I'd go to the manufacturer's website* that made the rope/cordage and they would have directions specific to their product and the diameter you purchased. .
* Eg. New England Ropes, Sampson Cordage, etc.
Good Luck, it's a fun journey with a learning curve!

My personal favorite way is to bundle into 4 segments (2 plaits) and do a conventional back splice. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuIsS35IIm4
the above combined with the Yale instructions give a very comprehensive technique: http://www.yalecordage.com/pdf/brait_to_chain_splice.pdf
Although some weave the strands back thru the chain, I prefer the back splice (and eye splice right up against the chain link, with no throat in the splice. _________________ Bob Austin

I used the instructions on the Yale cordage site. There are both written instructions and a video. I just did the direct splice rope to chain (no weaving strands up through the chain at all). For some reason I found the instructions for Brait a bit confusing. What I mean is, once I got the hang of it, it seemed easier than they made it sound... if that make sense. Of some slight comfort was that a friend who was doing it along with me was similarly confused. But we got it in the end. Previously I have done the same basic style of rope-to-chain splice with three-strand. Never had a hint of a problem with chafe or etc.
I usually do a couple of "insurance whippings" too. I doubt they are actually needed, but I like to see them there. |
