Here is the new URL for BC Windmaps. It gives links to mouse and tablet versions to replace/supplement the old site. Tapping on a data site gives you names, recent data, etc., for each. Tap again on the box to get rid of it. Trés cool!!

Per site owner, see link info in gif below. He'd prefer it not get spread around willy-nilly via bots.

That's great. Lot of 30 knt5 winds up there now.

So, what does a black, blue or red wind tail mean? Don't tell me I'm dumb, just explain for us socially unconscious.

Boris, the colors identify whether buoy, lighthouse, or land station sourced data.

They guy who does the wind map is a Canadian, so maybe that should be "colours."

With apologies to Al, the guru at Windmap, please read these email amendments about his site:
(1)
At this time, I would prefer that you not post the URL anywhere.
Email it to your kayak buddies.
For the power boaters, there will be a better URL before spring. You can distribute that one all you like because it is a commercial site.
I have posted the URL to West Coast Paddlers, but I used a gif file to do so.
This makes it difficult for the spambots to recognize it.
Thanks,
Al

Hi Rod:
Could you edit your C-Brats post to replace the clickable url with this gif?
Humour me Wink
Thanks,
Al

(Al's clickable URL was an attachment that I could not get to copy&paste, so here it is, typed by moi:
)

I'm not sure what that all means, so I hope that by typing in and using this address we can get to the .gif w/o the actual link. Al's original site was on Cape Mudge kayakers (dot) com, and he/they must be taking it to new levels of distribution. I'll have to stay tuned for the powerboat iteration.

Here is the url in gif form so it is not readily readable by bots.

Admins: please delete the text versions.
Thanks

A related tool, with a global view of winds. Change the pressure figure in the URL for winds aloft, 500hPa to emphasize jetstreams. I think the default, 1000hPa, is basically surface winds. Not useful for local winds, but gives the overview.

http://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/isobaric/1000hPa/orthographic=-132.39,42.72,360

You can zoom in or out, and rotate the globe, also.
