Pat and I just returned from a short motor home trip to visit our friends along the Erie Canal. We started with a breakfast with the last owners of the Newark diner. Jim and his wife Betty.
The McBrides sold the diner after a bout of poor health. I am happy to report that they are doing fine. The diner is in Ohio getting a rebuild and will end up in Buffalo, NY next year. Also joining us was John Zernof a reporter for the local paper and a big supporter of the canal improvements.

Newark has been one of our favorite stops on the canal. Three nights of free docking, showers, and a free washer and dryer.
More good news. A new restaurant has opened at 212 N. Main St., a short walk from the docks. Nana's Village Restaurant has good food and low prices, they are open for breakfast. Not a FUNKY as the Old Newark Diner, but very nice.

We then had breakfast with Tom MCall and his mother Betty. If you were on the first C Brat trip on the canal many years ago
we met Tom and his mother Betty in Fairport and declared them Honorary C-Brats even if they travel the canal in another brand of boat. Tom is a local source of info on any and all things about the Erie Canal. Later we met up with Tom Speedy one of the Fairport Dock masters and he filled us in on the changes and additions in Fairport.

There is now room for about 9 more boats to hook up with electric and water. The new docks are just East of the fixed bridge on the same side as the shower rooms. They have also
added new walk ways and brick walls between the bridges.

We also stopped to see our old boat now renamed SNICKERS and owned by Jim Whitney. Jim has enclosed the cockpit and has made other nice upgrades. We are happy that our boat has such a good owner.

It is not to early to start your planning for a cruise on the Erie Canal for next summer. You don't need a mule-just a C Dory.

Pat and Fred -
Thanks for the update and bringing back many fine memories shared along the canal. Our best to you and those canal cruisers we have met and enjoyed great times together.
