Does anyone have preferred "boating" music?

As we were venturing through the narrow Obstruction Pass for the first time yesterday, I pressed play on my MP3 player:

what's funny is the song changes around the 3 minute point to mellowed vibe, and that was right as we popped out the other side.

then it picks up again at the 4 minute point, which is was perfect because I had some navigating to do. good times Smile

but while cruising around the bays and just sitting in the marina reading, I liked listening to Eddie Vedders ukulele projects. There are two albums I believe, these are some of my favorite songs:

http://grooveshark.com/s/Tuolumne/2HLBm9?src=5

http://grooveshark.com/s/Can+t+Keep/4eNWfj?src=5

and of course when I arrive in a new Marina:

Anything by Dave Brubeck, Lionel Hampton, Benny Goodman, Joshua Redman, Miles Davis , or Louis Armstrong. Throw in some Sidney Bechet for good measure.

I'll take Richard Rogers "Victory at Sea" if I want to get pumped up for an offshore adventure:

Victory at Sea

it goes well with the Pirates of the Caribbean sound track.

I do too actually, I like to sit and drift when possible to fish vs trolling even because of the drone of the motor(s) but if i'm cruising i'm going to be hearing something anyways Smile

Yes, nothing beats the sound of the water and whir of twin engines and the sounds the boat makes at rest or off-plane or screaming along.

Yup, silence is good. Just the sounds of waves slapping against the hull, the quiet hum of the motor, the cries of sea gulls - if there were any, wonder where they went?

"HEY, keep the barfing down to a minimum will you. I'm trying to commune with nature here. Sheesh.
Durn neophytes. It's only Force nine.
FORCE NINE, ya hear!
It's barely a fresh breeze."

mutter, mumble

Digger, that's a NFLD classic! Donna's family is from NFLD and there's such a rich musical heritage there. Love the button accordion...and we have a bunch of records...Dick Nolan "Fisherman's Boy" is another fav.

So are these guys...

I have been visiting the on board stereo. CD - AM/FM - Marine Weather. All usable, but....... when I am traveling, I am usually where there is other boat traffic so............ there is VHF 16 (Which is a legal requirement to monitor), and then there is Vessel Traffic, 05A, 14, or 11 plus 68 which I have heard is the official C-Brat channel. Then depending on the traffic situations, 13 for closing, crossing or opposing arrangements. With all the VHF going on I just don't have the time for the music I would like.

But, at anchor, dock or when there is uncomplicated slow cruising involved, That is another story. Only the CD player takes too much battery to listen to hour after hour on the bats, so it is limited to slow cruise or if there is accessory power. That is why I have been looking at the CD player. It may be time for it to go and a replacement with access for an MP3 or USB input may be the ticket.

Sorry, Didn't mean to hyjack here. Guess I just like lots of different kinds of music and it has to fit the mood. Cool
