Hi , We are new members, seriously considering buying a 25' C-dory for cruising. We have some questions for experienced owners of the 25' C-dory. 1. Is there an advantage to buying one at the boat show, and do you have to go through a dealer if you buy one at the boat show? 2. Does the twin enging setup offer more maneuverablity, and are they set up with separate throttles? 3. What's the draft with twin engines on it and moderately loaded? 4. What do you estimate is the towing weight with trailer and twin engines? 5. Can you use dockside diesel in the diesel stove acessory? Other owners say Kleen Heet is the only way to go. 6. Have any of you added an additiona 20 gal. water tank, and can this be done at the factory? Thanks Smile Bobbie & Joe Marchese

Hi Joe & Bobbie,
I can only address your first question. We bought a 22 Crusier @ the boat show last August. We bought it from the factory not through a dealer. C-Dory threw in some extras for the boat show, anchor, anchor rope & chain, a safety kit which included 4 life jackets, flare kit and fire extinguisher. We also saved some money over what I had priced out the boat from a dealer.

Bobbie & Joe,

Welcome to the C-Dory world. Maybe I can answer a few of your questions. We have the 25 that was at the 2003 Seattle Boat Show. We bought it from a dealer the following April. You don't have to go through a dealer to buy a C-Dory. The factory will sell it direct and take an order from their dealer network. I think this is wrong, but it's their business model and their dealers seem to put up with it. There are usually boat show specials, but I think you can probably negotiate a deal that is the same or better at a later date. I think the price that I got from my dealer was as good as anything that I've seen the factory negotiate at a boat show.

Your biggest problem with negotiating will be availability. When we purchased our boat the 25's were relatively new and not nearly as popular as the 22's. They are now extremely popular. I think C-Dory has sold out it's annual production on the 25's already this year. Finding a dealer that has one is probably the only way you'll get one for this boating season.

I can't answer your second question because I have a single Honda 130 and a Honda 15 kicker. The single versus twin is an ongoing debate between C-Dory owners on long winter evenings. There are advantages to both setups. I have no experience with twins but it seems logical to me that they would be more maneuverable at slow speeds.

The draft of the 25 is about 10", it might get to 12" when heavily loaded. Add another 12"-18" below that for the bottom of the outboard skeg and you see that you can float in a foot of water and travel in 3'.

The towing weight of my boat with the single & kicker, loaded for a trip, water tank empty, fuel tank 3/4 full on our tandem axle trailer is right at 7000 lbs. With twins you'll probably be a couple of hundred lbs heavier.

You can use dockside diesel in your Wallace stove if you want. I think most of us use kerosene or a kerosene substitute like Kleen Heet because it burns cleaner and has less odor.

We have only the 20 gallon water tank that is standard. These boats are semi custom and I think the factory will accomodate almost any idea we can come up with. If they'll put a composting toilet in a 25, I'm sure they'll consider adding an extra water tank.
Lyle
