As many of you may have noticed I've been working on purchasing the 1982 27' C-Dory that is down in Texas that was posted for sale on the C-Dogs site a couple months ago. As of last night the owner accepted my offer on the boat. So now comes a lot of legwork from a distance to get the boat from Texas. I'm going to be contacting a tire shop down there to have new bearings and tires put on the trailer and then I will be having a transport company bring the boat home. Hopefully I will have the boat before the end of June.

Once I have it home I will have quite a bit of work that will need to be done to get it ship shape. The boat has been sitting for about 2 years in covered storage and I will have to remove the outdrive and put new rubber boots on it. Plus I will have to do regular maintenance items like rebuilding the carb, doing a tune up and changing all the hoses, belts, and batteries.

My wife and I have decided to call it the "Migratory Dory" due to its originally being sold in Anchorage, AK and then being towed across country to Texas and now back "Home" to Fall City, Wa. Hopefully we can continues its migration by using it all over the Puget Sound!

Gary
Congrats on the 27' C-Dory. I know you have a lot of work ahead of you, but do you think you'll be able to make Blakely. I would sure like to take a look at that big fishing machine.
See ya on the water.

I don't know if I will get the boat in time for that. Let alone get it reliable enough for running up to Blakely. If at all possible I would love to make it though.

The barest of minimum I'll have to do is put a pair of batteries in it and drain the old fuel. I think I'll also have to replace the rubber boots on the outdrive as well. Most of the other stuff is less than a days work. I can rebuild the carb in an hour or two and the tune up, hoses, and belts are all probably another hour or two. I'm not sure how long the raw water pump will take to replace.

Gary, Congrats on the new boat. Very Happy Hot We look forward to meeting you and hopefully cruising with you all soon. We got ours back and we are starting the clean up job. A little wax and it should be back in the water by the end of the month.

Don,

Thanks again for talking with me on the phone letting me look over your boat while it was at Les's. It made a big difference in my wifes perspective of what we are buying! After looking at yours she was much more ammenable to the idea of purchasing this one. Plus she was just plain fascinated by the size of the outboard on your boat! That Honda is immense!

I was amazed at how small the head was. I know that neither Sharie nor I would be able to use it as we would not fit! Yes I'm that big... Embarrased

My son left Fall City on Monday afternoon for Texas. He called me this afternoon at 3:30 to tell me he was 300 miles from the boat and had talked with the previous owner and arranged to meet him tomorrow morning at 8:00 am. I'm having Mikol replace or repack all the trailer bearings and possibly replace the tires before heading home. At the rate he is driving he should arrive back in Fall City before next Wednesday or Thursday even if he stops to see his Aunt and Uncle in Mesa, AZ.

If you see a white Ford pulling a big C-Dory give him a honk and wave! I'm sure he'll get a kick out of it! Smile

Mikol arrived yesterday afternoon after nearly 5,000 miles of driving in 9 days. The only problems encountered during his trip were a new starter motor for the truck in Roswell, NM and a strange loss of tranny fluid in Las Vegas. He stopped to visit family on the way home in Mesa, AZ and Yuba City, CA. Other than that he had an un-eventful trip and is glad to be home.

Well now the work begins! First things first I'm going to pull the batteries out of the sled and put them in and see what it is going to take to fire up this beast. Then the outdrive will be pulled and new boots put on. Plus I will be working over the steering system as well. It seems the steering is ceased up at this point so I have to figure out where the problem is and take care of it (it is hydraulic and I may just replace it all with a Seastar Dual Helm system).

Next on the list will be to remove a LOT of wiring and redoing it. The old owner has wires everywhere and it just plain looks tacky.

I'm not sure when I'll get to the bottom paint. It badly needs to be redone as it is very rough and will severely hamper performance (IE: Fuel Mileage!). The good thing is that I will be trailering this boat so I really don't need bottom paint for its anti-fouling characteristics. This gives me time to figure out what I want to do in that area.

I hope to get a chance to take a bunch of photos this weekend to document the shape it is in now. At this point I see no way I will make Blakely this year Sad

Gary,

Maybe you can make the Desolation Sound gathering?

Greg,

There are a few pics of her that were taken prior to my purchase in my gallery.

Nancy, we'll have to see how the repairs go. I knew what I was getting myself into, so I just have to follow through and get them done Smile
