My CD-22 came with a MagicTilt trailer. The boat tows nicely on it. However, I have determined that the brakes on the trailer don't work. The guy who had the trailer before me, never noticed that the brakes weren't working. When I checked the reservoir it was dry. Removing the bleed screws showed that only one caliper had enough fluid to make the bleed screw wet.
I am trying to get the system to work again. I filled the reservoir and opened a bleed valve. When pumping the tongue the actuator moves all the way back and then extends about 1/2 way back when released. I have done this a number of times and the fluid level in the reservoir has not changed.
I was wondering if the breakaway cam is set. Pulling on the cable has no effect. If the cam is set how will this affect the actuator operation? Also, if it is set, how do I tell and how do I reset it?
The maintenance manual for the trailer I have and the ones I find online make no mention of the breakaway operation other than to say make sure the cable is hooked up.
Thanks. |

I also have a Magic Tilt, but when mine came to me it had drum brakes on one axle only (it's a tandem), and the actuator was toast. So I redid the whole system and put disc brakes on both axles. In that way, I may not be much help in sussing out your problem. However, I did have to go through two different actuators, because the first (new) one I got turned out to be defective. What I found is that there is good information online about how they work on the website of the manufacturer of the actuator (Titan, etc.). Maybe you have already checked that out, but if not it might give you some good info. I also found Titan to be very helpful on the phone, as well as Kodiak, when I was trying to diagnose a problem. Tie Down..... less so.
