I appreicate the suggestion. I will take a look this weekend and see how much room is available.

This is the great thing about this site. Great ideas to "borrow".

Dan,
I was looking at the DogonDory pics. Can you post a little more detail abou your kicker mount. What size kicker do you carry on it? It looks like you bolt a mounting board to the bracket and the motor will clamp to it above the current transon level. I need to do something for my small kicker.
Thanks,
Steve

As rainy season approches and the boat is kept in the water, I am adding a bottom bulkhead at the end of the cabin area and will be installing a bildge on the cockpit side just off center of the (doorway, if I had one).

My question is: I want to put a recess hole in the hull and need to know how deep I can safely go...1 inch...2 inch?....In other words how thick is the hull at this location?

Respond fast....my battery is almost charged on the drill.

Whaler Go Far

I've heard before that the CD hulls, depending on their vintage are 1-1/2 to 2" thick, but that's not enough information to set the plunge router and have at it!

How big of a depression do you need? Enough for a pickup fitting at the end of a tube or enough to set a whole pump in it?

In either case, I'd use a rotary disk cut off tool on the end of a phenuatic or electric die grinder, and start by cutting out a small square, then pull and or cut the inside of the square out until I could get to the balsa core and work down just to the bottom of it, leaving the outer structural layer 100% intact, Then, knowing the thickiness, you can expand the work area, knowing the outer hull is intact and not compromised.

Be sure to re-seal the sides and bottom with resin once you have the depression carved out. (I know you probably already know this.)

Let us know how it goes! Joe.
