Can anyone recommend a good comfortable life vest for a small dog? She is a 5 lb Pomeranian. I have looked at the different brands and styles but Have not seen any reviews from actual users. Thanks.
our new C Dory should be arriving this week! Kozy Corsaut |

This is a "Paws Aboard" size XXS. It has a belly band with velcro and a buckle, also a front strap w/buckle and a handle on the back.
We bought it when Rusty was a few months old, and it still fits almost 3 years later. He's a Yorkie/Brussels Griffon mix now weighing 5 or 6 pounds.
I bought it on eBay and forgot what it cost. I would buy it again.
On Edit a link.

Great photo! If he didn't have the life vest on, he'd be just about perfectly camouflaged there |

We have a bright orange vest we have used for several dogs--not sure of the brand, but as Brent notes, you want to have a handle on it, so you can grab the dog and pick it up. Also secure buckles are important. A bright color is very desirable. Even though the dogs swim well, there are places for life jackets and even safety harnesses. _________________ Bob Austin

Many of the less-desirable dog life vests out there consist of flotation and straps fastened underneath the flotation. The problem with this is that the straps then cut into the dog's body when the flotation (or handle) is supporting the dog. The ones we bought have the straps stitched to the outside of the flotation, which forces the flotation to follow the contours of the dog's body. Both Ike's and Sookie's are made by Ruffwear and we have been extremely pleased with them.

Good point about something to watch for. When I was shopping (years ago), I remember finding some that had a large/sturdy mesh panel that went under the dog's stomach. That way there was no hot/bulky flotation under there, but there were also not straps digging in. |
