My first post, a few days ago, was concerning trim tabs and my interest in a 22ft cruiser. Yesterday we closed the deal and arrived home just before dark with our boat. So the listing that has been at Riverview Marina in Homosassa, FL ($28,500 asking price) has been sold. We feel we settled on a fair price. Our 2010 Jeep Liberty pulled the C-Dory (60 mi) on the two axle trailer with little effort, much better than our 20ft poontoon boat, due to the reduced wind resistence. Our Jeep was already wired with a 4-wire system. So all we had to do was hook up and drive off. The surge brakes on the trailer work beautifully; no more pedal pressure than with no trailer. We do not have the 5th wire (blue) to the trailer wiring 5-pin connector, but we had no problem backing up on level, sandy yard. (That is the wire that applies 12v when in reverse to prevent the surge brakes from applying). Today we start a full clean-up of exterior and interior. A short cruise will soon follow. Glad I live in FL. |

Terrific. Be sure to post pictures of the new boat and start up an album.
You are going to have a grand ol' time with your 22, I guarantee it. _________________ You can tell a man his wife is ugly, but never ever criticize his dog, his gun, his truck or his boat.

I recently bought a CD-22 on a trailer with surge brakes. Originally I didn't have a 5-wire trailer connection (had 4 wires) so I did not try backing up without setting the override on the trailer because I was told it would not work without the 5th wire. After I changed the connector and added the 5th wire, I tried backing up with the trailer and everything worked fine (I could back up). When I first looked at the trailer the discs had surface rust because the boat had not been used for awhile. After towing the boat a few times I had another look at the discs. They were still rusty. Further inspection showed that the brake reservoir and all but one of the brake lines was dry.
Shame on me for not checking the brakes out properly when I bought the boat (it's my first trailer with brakes). However, the point of my story is that if you can back up without having the 5th wire connected, it is quite possible that your trailer brakes are not working.
I tow my CD-22 with a Toyota van and it tows quite easily even with the trailer brakes not working. So far I have only towed when the roads are dry. If I had found myself towing on wet roads the fact that the trailer brakes were not working might have been found out the hard way. |

I checked rotors this morning. They are rusty as the day I first hooked up. I checked fluid in master cylinder; empty. Thanks for the heads-up. Now I am headed out to fill master cylinder and try to bleed the lines. |

Ah the joys of getting another boat. Anyway, congratulations on your prize, you will enjoy it a lot. A C-22 certainly isn't as exposed as a pontoon boat, it's a different world. And I'm also glad you live in Florida.

Get some of speedbleeders. It's supposed to make bleeding the brakes much easier. I have some but haven't used them yet.
