kaosk-

1. If we knew what brand, type, and model the bracket was, we could look it up and see what at maximum kicker weight it was rated for and compare it to your kicker weight.

2. It might also be that your mechanic doesn't think the bracket is anchored well enough in your transom to take the weight, even though the bracket may be rated for the weight of the motor. This might be due to the way he had to mount it, or the construction and strength of your transom.

So it would seem that we can't really answer the question on the information we have at the present. Joe.

the mechanic is saying its my transom that wont take the weight the bracket is ratted for up to 115 lbs he also says he cant get inside the transom to reinforce it due to just a very small hole for access he still says he will be able to mount it but i will have to take it off when i tow i will be using it at lake almanor and i live bout 10 min from lake so its not a long haul but i was thinking a transom saver or a 2 by 4 cut to make a makeshift support

If he is worried about towing it with the motor on the bracket I would be worried about simply using the motor! The torque the motor can apply can be tremendous.

I would be very concerned with the mounting if the interior bolts aren't reinforced. I would want a metal strap (or aluminum angle) between the two upper bolts on the bracket if at all possible. Barring that I would want the largest possible fender washers on the bolts. You are going to have far less stress applied to the bottom bolts but even they should have at least some large fender washers.

The strap has to be on the inside to do any good. You need to distribute the load across the bolts.

If this is a bracket that gets raised and lowered just leave the kicker in the down position. It should be no more stress than running the motor.
