Looking for a 22' Angler or possibly Cruiser to trade for my 1957 Cessna 172 in excellent condition. I'm asking $25K for my plane. It has freshly overhauled engine and lots of upgrades. If anyone is interested I can send pictures and details. This is a flying airplane in annual.

An excellent year for the 172's. Lighter and quicker and more economical to operate. Unfortunately, I had to make a choice of all my hobbies and gave up flying as too regulated. CD's are better and less politically stressful. Good luck on finding a buyer. I've sold 6 airplanes over the years, and lost a pile of money on each sale, so I can feel your pain. I tried many times to do trades for collector cars or boats, but non of those ever worked.

I don't mean to discourage you. I can say that at your price, and if the airplane is in good condition regarding hours and electronics, it would be a great trade for someone who is tired of their CD. Hard to imagine such a person, but there may be one out there.

I've tried selling airplanes on trade a plane and trader on line, but the only thing that worked for me was e-bay on each and every one. I was a motivated seller though and was willing to take the price that the e-bay auction watchers were willing to pay. Usually at 25% less than I valued the airplane.

Flying has been a great hobby, probably similar to boating in many ways. Getting my private pilots license was the best thing I ever did. But it's time for me to let it go. I've owned three airplanes, all of them loads of fun and one of them I built (RV-9A). Having a small fishing boat sounds like a lot of fun, and here where I live there is a lot of good fishing.
This would be a great all around airplane for someone, very economical four seater and it is in top condition. Always hangared here at my home. I have over $30k invested in engine and equipment, but in this economy I've already had to lower my price. I have all log books since new, owners manual, service and parts manuals headsets and tow bar that go with it. 4 hours since major overhaul on the engine and prop. Many mods including STOL kit.

Boating in any kind of winds and water conditions is so very much akin to flying in terms of needed skills and challenges. Some will say that because you have the vertical component to flying that it is much tougher in terms of skills, and for the large part I agree. But, I found the toughest part of flying to be management of the rules and regulations, rather than getting off the ground and back on again at another destination safely.

So, in terms of opportunity to hone a skill in an activity that can kill you, boating, either power or sail has many opportunities to overcome challenges and to keep learning till the end of your days. Certainly, the navigation challenges are of a similar type to flying. Weather challenges are of a similar type. Equipment failure can be critical on a boat, but not nearly so critical as aircraft. However, inspections and maintenance on a boat are very important.

So, if you pull out the opportunity to fall straight down several thousand feet, boating has proved to me to be just as satisfying as flying has over the years. Piper PA11, Piper PA12, Piper PA16, Cessna 210, Cessna 180, Aeronca Champ, Piper J3 cub, Aeronca tri-champ, Cessna 170B and a Kit Fox. Owned and flown them all, and rebuilt a few too and lost money on each and every one. My flying has cost about 300 to 500 dollars an hour by my reckoning.

But, in the end, I've enjoyed my boats just as much because boating in general lacks the heavy jack boot of federal rules and regulations.

I own a boat. My father and brother own planes. I get to go flying when I want for free and fish when ever I want. Thats the best way to go.

sounds like a nice plane. My brother has one and likes it a lot. I hope you find the dory you want.

I don't know Potter, I would sure prefer to deal with an engine failure in a boat than in an aircraft! The FAR's have been around a long time, I can't imagine what prohibitive regulations and politics you are referring to.

I have just my Private and have flown Cessna 152, 172, Beech Sport, and Sundowner. There is nothing like sitting on the runway in an airplane by yourself having just called out your departure and then landing after a nice flight. Docking a ship smoothly is a close second though!

I always have a cold beer in the refrigerator of my boat.....I never had one in any of the aircraft I flew.
