It is almost August and it is time to think about the boat show gathering.
seeing as how Pat & Patty did such a good job of hijacking last years gathering it is my thoughts that they should take over the gathering and do it all.
I am officially stepping down as the planner for this event.
Linda Dreher, our motel & travel coordinator is willing to work with whomever decides to take this on.
I will gladly help out in some form but am not willing to run things.
it has been fun doing this but it is time for new blood to take the reigns.

Roger thank you for your work all these years. We really loved the boat show get togathers every year. I sure hope someone takes it up this year. We are willing to help that happen. Way point boats showed some interest in working with the group for the boat show. They will have c-dorys on the floor this year.
On a side note who ever is having the next gathering get a hold of me. Susan and I have a LOT of supplies and the sign. Also the tip jar. I would like to see a gathering in september or october. Some of us where kicking ideas around at La conner and Comax. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

Just want to say thanks again, too, Roger. The SBS CBGT has been a highlight since my first year as a Brat. You have really done a great job there. Hope to see you there still.

Ihad a mild panic attack seeing the phrase "2013 Seattle Boat Show".
I need to get through the summer before I can even think of the boat show! _________________ Matt Gurnsey

Patty here. The SB-CBC has been great fun over the years. I would like to say that we did not hijack anything, we simply suggested a venue for the Friday night dinner and I believe everyone enjoyed it. We are in the process of cleaning out and making changes to a home we have lived in for 26 years in order to put it on the market. We are also transitioning to retirement mode so we cannot make the commitment to take over the helm of this event. I hope some younger blood will do that. Thanks for all your efforts over the years, Roger. _________________

The pot luck dinner has been on FRIDAY nights.
See this link: http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?t=14511&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=45
We did not go the the 2012 SBS gathering partly because of P & P changing the pot luck to Sat nite by scheduling their affair on Friday. _________________ Larry H

Larry, it is pretty clear from all the posts in the thread you linked to that the potluck has been on either Fridays or Saturdays in different years! When the factory used to throw a party, we all scheduled around that. Any number of years (and virtually all other CBGTs) have the restaurant dinner on Friday and the potluck on Saturday because more people have arrived by Saturday. As there was no factory party, Friday just seemed the logical choice for the restaurant dinner. When we suggested the Friday night soiree at the Taproom, nobody suggested it should have been on Saturday. We would have been glad to do it on either night. And the 80 or so folks who did take the bus out or drive to the Taproom for food and beer (which we provided at cost) and heard Peter's combo play pretty much uniformly reported having a great time! When/if we do the Taproom thing again, whoever is in charge can certainly say when it should be scheduled.
The main message though is that P&P will not be able to take over running the SBS/CBC for the reasons Patty stated.

I could potentially do this or help do this but if I were to do it, I'd probably want to move the hotel a bit north.
Larkspur Landing is a great location for those coming in from the airport and, when the factory was in Kent was a great location for going to and from the factory. However, it is 12.3 miles south of Century Link Field but 27miles south of my house and 14.2 miles south of my office. Since I can't take off the entire Thurs - Sat., having the main site of the gathering a bit far away from my house would make it more difficult.
Looking at the Brat Map, it would appear that there are more C-Brats to the N of I-90 than to the S so it might be more convenient for the majority to have then venue a bit farther N. This might result in a more expensive venue though so we'd need to think carefully about this. However, for me to take this on, I'd want the venue N of Century Link field - perhaps in Seattle or perhaps in Shoreline but no farther north than that. What do others think? |

Roger
yes Larkspur is a nice place and yes it would be nice to be farther North.
Last year Linda looked into finding some place that was of the same calibur as Larkspur farther North but was unsuccesful. most wanted 2 or 3 hundred for one nights use of a large room. also the room rents were much higher.
If you were to find a place in Seattle the taxes will be substantially more per room.
any one who is willing to take this over will get a lot of help from Linda and I. Linda is willing to try to find us something North again and I may ask her to look into it again.
If anyone wants to talk with me call me at 360 629 3837 most any evening.
I just looked at the boat show web site and the Dates have been posted for the 2013 show. It will be held from Jan. 25th thru Feb. 3rd .the 25th is Friday so if you want it the first weekend it would be the 25th thru the 27th of January 2013
the main reason why we have usually had the potluck on Friday night was that it was much easier to come from home or where ever with food on Friday . it is much more pain in the a$$ to come back from the show on Sat. early to prepare the potluck. much easier to bring first night.plus there is usually leftovers for use on Sat. night.

Roger,
I think its really great your offering to coordinate things and carry on the tradition of the SBS Gathering. Roger Johnson did a great job for many years so it would be great to see the event continue.
We would be fine with a venue change and more then willing to stay at a more expensive location perhaps, as you suggested, closer to the SBS itself.
If you are stepping up as the host then I think your decision as to where to stay is your right to determine. I am sure others will chime in on that subject too!
We would be happy seeing and spending time with everyone that can make it wherever it takes place!
Take care,
Dan, Tanya, and Hannah on C-Renity |
