'04 22' Cruiser. When I open it up, I saw 1/2" or so of water. Sponged it out and forgot about it, thinking it was condensation?
Is it? |

One possibility; the screws for the brass bow strip. There have been documented issues with them. _________________ "We can go over there...behind the 'little one'....."

More than condensation I have seen. Is the water only in the cabin sole? Is there any water under the porti-potty area. Is the boat in the water?
Was there any cover on the boat? Rain? Check around the windows, any penetrations thru the top? Railings on the tip--hand railings on the aft bulkhead?
Any of water running from the rivets holding the aluminum extrusion holding the vinyl rub rail? Was there water in the cockpit, which ran into the cabin.
It could be the brass strip--but that water usually shows up in the area under the proti-potty.
If you cannot find the area easily--take a hose and go around all of any deck penetrations--including railings etc.
I had a mystery leak--and it turned to be the aft cabin bulkhead grab rail--pulled, properly bedded and re-sealed. _________________ Bob Austin

I had a small amount of clean clear water in that little sump inspection area once. Do you have your port a potty in that space? I had a perfect storm of a loose clean water tank cap on my port a potty and a loose inspection cap on the sole. Never happened again. I ain’t sayin’, I’m just sayin. _________________ Gary & Gerrie former Minnie Swann owners

An easy test: sit in the cabin by the porta-potty and have someone run a hose over the boat. Look at all penetrations: bolts under the bow rail, cleats, any antennas or added equipment, etc.
If you see drops forming anywhere, that's a spot to repair. Tightening the bolts might help temporarily but would also seal moisture in the core; better to remove the offending fitting, clean out any wet core, fill with new resin and re-mount with good sealant. |
