I signed up to a forum for Jeep owners a while back. I had to register because the number of views on the boards was limited to just a few visits for non-members. I reached the limit, so I joined to continue reading. Now then, they give me this message:
Quote: | Hello TyBoo,
Our records indicate that you have never posted to our site before! Please note that access to certain sub-forums and features (such as custom signatures & avatars and PMs) are restricted until you have made at least 1 post. |
The only reason I am sharing this is to state very clearly that if we ever get that uptight around here please kick us in the butt and wake us up. _________________ TyBoo Mike

Hi Mike,
You guys run a pretty nice place here and I love it. Thank you for doing such a fine job. I guess if I had a pet peeve, it would be that people can come on and post and have pretty much no information in the "profile" section. If that is all filled in, it makes answering some questions much easier. Just my quirky process. Of course, you are welcome to run the place the way you want
Thanks again, and glad you do post.
Harvey

I also wish more people (members) would post more complete information on their profiles.
It makes for a more complete understanding of who you're talking to, and helps differentiate folks from one another.
I especially like knowing what occupation(s) a person has worked at, even if retired now.

That's what I'm talking about. Too many rules.
What gets me the most is the local Astoria newspaper. They have an online edition but they require a paid subscription or pay per view to read most of the content. Even some public service stories require payment. I tweak 'em on their Twitter every once in a while for their lack of community service. Every other news site I visit has free access to all of the content.
Gentlemen, we don't require the profile to be filled out so we don't scare away the odd-boat-brand folks. We want to convert them, not shame them. That plus it would be like a rule or something.
Speaking of that Jeep forum I mentioned ... did I tell you I have two Jeeps now? Everyone who lives on the beach should have twin Jeeps.

Saw 'em on FaceBook. If those are twins, they must have had different fathers, and maybe mothers too...

We only have the fancy one....not so fancy anymore. Willie takes issue with me driving it over boulders and between trees through the woods and mountain passes. It does a great job, but her nerves are shot. |
