Many of us have read the informative comments of one of the youngest C-Brats, Sam Landsman. This well travelled young man, who is soon to graduate from UW I believe, has already contributed much to this site, including the development and publishing of the C-Brat calendar. Now he is finallizing his plan to single hand his 22 footer "Retriever" from Twin Bridges up the Inside Passage to Alaska and back. His plan is to leave in early June and return sometime in August. To appreciate the effort and detail he has put into planning, please visit his blog. If you are considering someday making that journey you could do worse than using Sam's plan as a basis for your own. Here's wishing Sam all the best on his journey.

Thanks Marty! I'm really looking forward to the trip...meeting new people, learning about local cultures, seeing spectacular scenery, managing risks and fixing boat problems...it's all good. Retirement won't be for a loooong time and I figured I might as well take advantage of free time before career, family, or health obligations make taking off for three months impossible.

A few minor corrections. I'll be single handing about half the time, but I've got three brothers that will be joining me at different points for short periods, a grandmother that wants to see Glacier Bay, and parents who will come up for a few weeks of the trip. A friend will come with me from Anacortes to Ketchikan and I'm trying to meet up with another friend in Petersburg (he grew up there and is commercial fishing this summer). The more people I tell about the trip, the more that want to come for parts of it! Also, I'll be graduating from Colorado College (a small liberal arts school in Colorado Springs), not UW.

I can't express how thankful I am that my parents and grandparents have supported my travel, boating, and educational activities. And thanks to everyone here for providing inspiration and helping me work through the outfitting of the boat and planning of the trip. Hopefully I'll get to meet many of you in the future!

Good read! I need to do this trip again with no set schedule, so that is either like Sam, before things get set in stone, or after retirement. We'll be following along vicariously!

Marty, thanks for bringing this up. It sounds like a great adventure.

Sam, here's wishing you the best. I will be following along too on the web, as this is like the trip I want to do when I get old enough to retired. My boat was purchased new for this trip. It was Jim's 34'th boat and purchased specifically for the Alaska trip. I don't want to let him down. SleepyC will make the trip someday.

Thanks for you contributions, past, present and future.

Harvey

Thanks Jeff and Julie. I'm heading out tomorrow AM and should be in Alaska in about two weeks if everything goes according to plan. Latest blog post:

Bon voyage, Sam! A word of advice - don't plan on being in Alaska "in about two weeks." You will get there, first, when the weather gods allow you to get there, and, second, when you have stayed as long as you want to stay at every cool place along the way!

Weather, of course, will dictate everything, but I'll be moving just about as quickly as weather permits on the trip north because of various guests that are along for parts of the trip. But the last two months of the trip will have no schedule whatsoever, and I'll definitely take it slowly on the southbound trip.

Hi Sam,

New Moon will be in Prince Rupert, to launch and head for SE Alaska, roughly 6/12 or so. If you see a green-hulled 26-footer in your SE AK travels this summer, it's probably us - stop by or give a holler.

Good luck Sam. You have prepared for this exceptionally well. You already understand that Nature Rules. Be safe Run when you can hole up when you must. Retriever will look after you. Helen Keller once said "life is a daring adventure...or nothing at all". You go out there and live your dream. You need anything you remember your c brat friends. We'll lend a hand. Don't push the big water too hard. We'll be following along. Have fun. George and Carolyn.
