After looking at the alternatives I would like to do the Carolina Loop again on the weekend of May 18th through May 21st. I know that some of you wanted to do a Chesapeake trip, however I think for my first trip on the new boat and keeping the Admiral in relative calm conditions the Caroling Loop fits well. I would like to plan a Chesapeake trip with the group for later in the season. While on the loop we can discuss this future trip.

So, are there folks out there that would like to join Suzanne and I on the Carolina Loop May 18th - May 21st? For those that are interested I will setup reservations as I did last year. I plan to start at Centerville Waterway Marina in Chesapeake, VA on Friday and go to the North Carolina Visitor Center in the Dismal Swamp. On Saturday stop at Elizabeth City, NC, Sunday stop at Coinjock, NC and Monday return to Centerville Waterway Marina.

We hope many of you that traveled with me last year will join us on this trip.

Dick

Ernie & Erma,

Great to have you both on the trip. My wife and I would like to discuss with you your Florida Keys trip last year. We should be able to find some time during the loop. Looking forward to seeing you both.

Steve Dore,

Hope you can make it this year we had a great trip last year. Mostly flat water with a couple of open areas that can be somewhat sporting, however last year is was smooth. The marinas we stayed at were very accomadating and the group we traveled with was super.

All, I contacted Centerville Waterway Marina about the May 18 thru 21 weekend and they would love to have us back. So we have a place to put in and store our rigs for the weekend for thoes that are not local.

Tying to figure out a way to attend this. My son has confirmation graduation on Sunday, might be able to do Friday & Saturday. Would be my first as we just got the 22' early fall 2011. I think we or I will trailer down to marina and launch there? Will they let me leave truck and trailer for a few days? Really want to try and make this. I am working on it. If not will be looking for a Chesapeake trip this summer.

cheers!
Frank & Lisa

Frank,

Yes, Centerway Waterway Marina will provide space for truck & trailer for a few days. Our plan is to put in Thursday and Friday travel to the North Carolina Visitor Center. If you need to get back by Saturday you could return the Centerville on Saturday. This would give you a good look at the Dismal Swamp, 2 locks and some of the ICW.

Dick, have done that trip on a 22 right after ISABEL came through. Nothing to do with the previously mentioned storm but you should allow an extra day in your schedule for weather. Even at that time of the year, it can kick up pretty badly. Good luck, wish we could go, will be up in Maine for Apr-June.

Also, as an afterthought, there will be a lot of big guys Northbound in both canals after the wintering in Florida or elsewhere in warm climes. Be careful!!
Thumbs Up

Charlie

Dick, the Sea Pal crew sure wish they were going to be on the right coast this year to join you all again on this fun cruise. What a great time we had being with all you wonderful people.

This gathering was definitely one of the big highlights of our Great Loop Cruise. We're planning on doing the second half of The Loop starting next Feb. or March. It would be cool to end up in your neck of the woods to do the cruise next year, if you do it !!

We are looking forward to seeing the crew of Lady KC this summer at a gathering in Comax, BC. Wish more of you could join us on OUR coast sometime. You know one of the greatest attributes of C-dorys is their towability !!!

Best wishes to you all from Bob and Betsy

Charlie,

Thanks for the input, we will be looking for the big ones. We plan on 4 days for the trip leaving Friday and returning Monday, that should be sufficient. If the sounds are up we can always go back the way we came and still return on Monday.

Bob & Betsy,

We are not ready for the long tow quite yet, but thanks for the invite. Please keep us informed on your last half of the big loop and maybe we can meet up again.

Great news! The Dismal Swamp Canal has a remanufactured gate at South Mills and the entire canal has been swept of underwater debris. The canal will open on Monday, March 19, 2012.
