I have the C-80 Raymatine system and I don't find any Navionics Gold charts for Lake Powell. Does anyone know if they exist? If not can the C80 use the Cmap charts or are there paper or PC charts with GPS info such as Lat/Lon for specific areas?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,

I don't know much about Navionic charts, or if they have anything for Lake Powell. C-Map does make a chip for Lake Powell (NA-C133) but as far as I know, if your Raymarine is set up for Navionics chips, C-Map chips will not work. (On a related thread, it appears Raymarine recently quit offering C-Map as a chip option in their hardware. Of course I opted for C-Map a couple years ago ... swell.)

There are some locally produced maps for Lake Powell that are pretty decent. One is called the Stan Jones Map and has been printed for decades. It is quite good and gives a brief description of virtually all the Lake Powell side canyons. Another map is the one produced (and printed) in the Lake Powell magazine
( http://www.lakepowellmag.com/maps.html ). Due to the massive changes in the lake level over the past few years you will find that most of the charting is out-of-date ... so be careful.

Still, a Great Place!

Steve,

Try FISH-n-MAP CO. They offer Lake Powell North and Lake Powell South, waterproof plastic fold up maps. The lake level is at 3560' and down about 140' from full pool. Winter has been wet and predicted to raise the lake by 50' by August. We can only hope. Planning a trip to Lake Powell for next week if the weather looks ok. Will go to Bullfrog and stay a week or two.

Brent

Those Fish'n'maps are great, although as has been stated, with lower water levels one has to watch the contour of current lake level as the shoreline. Won't help you Steve, but, for others interested in the lake with a different chartplotter configuration, Garmin has the lake covered on their western fishing charts.

Steve...Navionics does have Lake Powell...it's in their Hotmaps product...you will need the western region. Remember to look in Utah if you don't see it in Arizona. The C-map stuff will not work on your machine. And as Casey mentioned...get the Stan Jones map even if you have the chip...it's got bunches of great info you won't get on any chip.
Also as Casey mentioned...the lake is down, which presents new hazards which don't show up on the charts...and are not marked. An important technique that I learned from El & Bill...that will save you some grief...is to follow the old submerged river channel as you enter the side canyons. This is fairly easy to do with a good plotter and the chip for the lake. You may look a little crazy zig zagging...meandering through what appears to be open water...but by staying over the old channel, you will keep lots of water under you. If you vary from the channel you increase your risk of hitting a rock. And they come up quick on Powell...there are many vertical walls due to the fact that it is a flooded canyon.

Some of the best cruising anywhere!

Thanks for the replys!

It looks like I need to find some $$$ for another navionics chart.

We are planning a 2 week trip at the end of April and begining of May. We are hoping we can avoid the rain this time. The last 2 trips to Mohave had almost as much water above the boat as under.
