I purchased my last three canisters from sportsmans' wharehouse for an extreme amount of money. The go quite a ways but there has to be a cheaper way. Anyone no of a commonplace outlet that sells the 8 oz canisters for less than $3?

Try an Asian Market. They usually sell for around $1.50 an 8oz. can. Buy a case at a time.

LLoyd, try Fred Meyer's stores. I think that was the last place I purchased. About $1.99 or less.

Most Asian markets sell them for about a dollar to a dollar fifty.

I am probably about 100 miles from the nearest asian market but I will keep my eyes open. Will also check out Fred Meyer. I live in the center of the oregon timber industry so fancy cooking isn't the norm. Thanks for all the input. I went on line and the prices were really good but the shipping was more than the butane. But I am going to stick with the butane burner. 10,000 BTU versus 5,000 for propane. That thing will boil water in about 60 seconds.

Exactly, that is one reason I took out the Wallas and put in a furnace on the 22. I have two butanes that I cook with on the boat in the cockpit.

Being a long way from Asian markets are the big reason we purchase a case at a time.
We love our Wallas but sure hope we never have to buy parts or have it serviced.
The butane stove sure works great in the cockpit for when we don't want to warm up the cabin.

We've bought them at a restaurant supply store for a good price.

There's something I hadn't thought of. I will search out one of those as well. I went on line for Fred Meyer in my area and we have three, but they don't show it at least on their website locally.

I just purchased my C Dory 25 and the Kenyon Electric Kiss cooktop
says to only use KBF-2 Butane. I can't seem to find that Butane so what other brands can be used?

You can sometimes find them at camping supply stores. The last ones I got were from WalMart. An Asian market will be a lot cheaper though.

I have no idea whether this brand is a safe substitute, but the price is right. http://www.amazon.com/Butane-GasOne-Canisters-Portable-Camping/dp/B001D7FYCI/ref=pd_sim_468_5?ie=UTF8&dpID=51VgopKivcL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=0TT69Z5275941KHV52V8

What could be so unique about the Kenyon cartridges?

I've used the Gas One cartridges from Amazon in my Princess stove of a similar design as the catering stoves (just has the addition of a thermocouple). I used to have the "plain" catering stove and the canister hookup design is the same.

The Gas One cartridges look and function the same as other ones from all I can tell (I've also used Coleman and a few other brands.) My guess is many of them are made in the same place these days, although I don't know for sure.

Take a look at one compatible canister and just make sure you pick them with a matching can shape and port type. I see them at many local stores of different types and they are normally quite cheap. I have used the example Dave posted above with no problems as well. We carry at least one spare on the boat at all times and usually two for a trip a week long. They do last a while unless you are doing long boils of some kind.

Great stoves for our boats.

Greg
