The time has come that I can no longer keep up a boat properly and we are not going to be able to use "Thataway" any more.

For sale: 2006 Tom Cat by C Dory. Twin 150 Suzuki outboards 207 hours. 14,000 lb rated Aluminum frame trailer by Float on. Trailer has less than 500 miles on it, with spare. Boat on trailer weight is about 10,000 lbs. Equalizer hitch for the trailer is available.

This is Hull #39 custom made and highly customized.
Electronics: Lowrance X26 HD plotter and sounder with all of US coastal charts internally loaded. Dual frequency transducer. Fuel flow meters. NMEA 2000 back bone system installed.

Standard Horizon 175, with C map Max of Gulf Coast, Florisa and Inland waters to Great Lakes
Furuno 1715 Radar
Two Standard Horizon Radios—one with Matrix hailer and fog horn
Standard Horizon Sterio, with quality box speakers, tape and input for I pod/Sirius, Sirius antenna
Icom 7000 HF SSB radio, 2 meter, 6 meter 440, with multi scan functions of all frequencies and LCD screen, with tuner, plus antennas is available only if you are a licensed ham operator.

Galley, Wallas stove, Custom cabinets, Norcold Chest freezer/refer, 110/12 volts on slide out under seat
Extra 30 gallon water tank (not installed), Microwave. Water heater.

Electrical: 1000 watt Xantrex inverter, 20 amp Tru Pro Xantrex charger, Plus Guest 2 battery 10 amp charger. Blue Seas VSR for alternator changing for all battery banks. Two AMG group 31 house batteries power inverter and refer. 1 Group 29 house and two group 29 engine start. Multiple switch combining. Blue Seas digital volt meter for all batteries. Upgrade wiring, switches and breaker/fuses. 2000 Honda EU, generator with 6 gallon aux tank and stands for use on swim step. Cockpit Box for generator and cords. Extra power cords, generator cords, and 2 30 amp cords. Generator will run water heater, Microwave or Air conditioner, on eco mode.

Air conditioner 8300 BTU coleman Polar cub. Cools the boat down at least 20 degrees below ambient in Florida summers. Also Mighty Dry compressor driven Marine dehumidifier.

Extra shower on stern (hot and cold). Raw water wash down. Extra fittings for fenders and dock lines by windows. Extra handles for access to side decks

Ground tackle: 22 lb Delta, 7 lb Guardian, 37 FX fortress. With appropriate rodes and chain. Electric Windlass.

Deck ice chest—Outer Banks—like Icey Trek—high end—95 quarts. Gerhauer davit, with support for deck house use,

Custom line and fender holders---all dock lines and 6 fenders.

Custom camper back. This is probably the best back made, with Sunbrella plus (waterproof), awning railing on the sides, full transparency on the back, roll up all sides. Free standing Bimini. !” SS tubing and SS fittings.

Window interior coverings. Full Temperpedic mattress pad. All bedding included. Ditch bag, with safety gear. There is an extra cushion which allows one person (over 6' 4") to sleep fore and aft, and then several others to sleep athwartships if you wish on the foreward bunk.

The boat has been waxed regularly, but I have a complete detail scheduled with high end 3 M or Colinite Fleet wax. It has been lift kept, and run in fresh water after each run. I am having the boat gone over by the best fiberglass people around and making sure it is like new. Health forces me to sell this fantastic boat. She is ready to go anywhere. Just put on food and go. All utensils, pots, dishes etc included. All spares, extra new LED lights, spot lights, flood lights for night running, everything you need to go.....

The truck is ideal for towing a Tom Cat. It is a 2000 Ford Excursion SUV, with heavy duty tow package (equivilant to 3/4//one tone truck. Mileage is 166,610. Good for at least another 100,000 miles. The 7.3 L. Northstar diesel is one of the best ever made. Gets 20 to 22 mph on the highway, and tows from 12 to 15 mpg (depending on grade etc). It does have the cloth interior, which I prefer. The advantage of this over a pickup is that you can carry all of the gear you want locked in the truck. We had an air matress (included) and pads so we could lie down and nap either when the other drove, or at rest stops. Equalizer hitch is included.

Please look at the "Thatway" album. You will see how the upgrades were done properly. (There are also some later photos of the restoration of a 25 monohull, don't confuse them)

Wow! Bob, sorry to hear you are leaving the TC fleet. Many folks owe you a huge debt of thanks for all the great advice and knowledge you have shared here.

This is a great price on a primo TC and tow vehicle. I'm sure some savy Brat will snap it up very soon.

All the best,

Darn Bob. Sorry to see this happen but I understand fully. The day will come for me too. I know this boat will go quickly and someone will get a great buy.

Dr. Bob,

Sorry to see this post, but I know someone is going to get a pristine, better-than-new TomCat. The Excursion is no longer made, and is a highly sought-after tow vehicle. Quite the set-up; a true turn-key way to get into TomCatting.

Sending best wishes for you and Marie,
Jim & Joan

I have to admit I regret seeing this post. I hope things work out such that you can keep your 'hand in the game' on the water.

For those considering a Tomcat, I would consider this perhaps the highest quality Tomcat available - brand new or otherwise - due to Bob's expertise. He is generally regarded as the most experienced captain and vessel craftsman on this board. He rebuilt or modified portions of his Tomcat he was not happy with when he acquired it new.

If I were in the market I would have Bob on one phone and my bank on the other to draft the check. I'm not blowing smoke because he's an online friend but his posts, knowledge contribution, and pictures of his modifications/rebuilds speak for themselves.

Thanks for the kind words. I hope to continue to use the 18' Caracal, and will stay on this board. Tood good a family. We may just have to arrive by RV to gatherings however.

Yes, that is a must - the main reason why we own a C-Dory is because of the respect of your knowledge. We figured if a C-Dory was good enough for you it would be good enough for us.

Best of luck with the sale.

Bob , sorry you have to sell. This should be a great deal for someone. Do you have any c-dory or other boats left?

Tom, that was the last CDory, I think. He's still hot his Caracal though.

Bob I have to say our time together at your home and gatherings in the area has been nothing short of a true blessing of friendships and fun with you and Miss Marie. I hate seeing this post, but, at the same time understand it to a point also. Always know that when/if I get back down your way for sure will give you two a shout. You be sure to do the same if you are ever in the Nashville area.

For a nice total package, this is for sure a great set up. Good luck in your sale of goods here. Keep us posted.

The Caracal is an 18 foot cat center console, and easy to maintain--just wash it out with a hose! Have some kid throw some wax on it. I have a local dirt ramp I can drive on the trailer, pull it out with my Honda Pilot, and a close by dealer to do any mechanical work necessary. We still have a "Fatty Knees" sailing dinghy for grand kids and other visitors, we also have two Hobie Mirage drive kayaks. We have an electric davit which we can use to launch these, and easy to transfer from the Caracal to the kayak. The Mirage drive action is almost identical to some of the rehab equiptment I work out on at the hospital. So I can "peddle along" at 3 knots and enjoy the birds and alligators. We also are keeping the 10 1/2 foot air floor dinghy and 3.5 hp outboard. We have a beach dolly which we can push it easily to the water from the RV--and it is on a "slide out tray (rolled up) inside of the RV. Marie is very competent at running the RV, so we travel in that.

There are a number of restaurants and other venues (sand bars, beaches, rivers etc) within 15 miles or less on the water from our house and the Caracal rides almost as well as the Tom Cat in up to 3 foot chop. I can take it a few miles offshore, It has an 80 lb thrust trolling motor, but I can also take the 3.5 outboard if necessary as a kicker.
