Greetings everyone. After 2-1/2 years boatless, I have a new C-Dory! She's the 1985 16 Angler that was advertised here a week or so ago by the fellow in Tillamook, Ore. Very interesting story associated with the previous owner. I just got back home a few minutes ago from trailering her back. Looks pretty good, the gelcoat is shiny, and should clean up well. The boat does have some keel damage and some partially repaired areas of abrasion on the bottom near the stern. I was going to do the bulkhead widening modification as my first project, but I think I'll tackle the hull repair first. I'm off to drop her in Lake Washington for a shakedown. Later, Mike. |

Congrats on getting the New To You. Sounds like you have plenty to keep you busy. Hope you get to spend some time on the water too. All those seamanship skills will come back with practice.
Harvey

Congratulations on the new addition to the family! I purchased mine just under a year ago. You definitely made a good purchase. I was talking about boats to a fellow Chief just the other day that was in the Coast Guard and he was telling me that the C-Dory is his dream boat. Means a lot about the boat coming from a Coast Guard Sailor with 20 years of service. _________________ Kevin and Randi Gray

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. My hull repair project is a bit more involved than I first thought, so I've retained a fellow to do the glass repairs. Seems like a real decent fellow; he came over to take a look today and will start grinding late this week. It looks like the boat fell off its trailer at some point and slid down the road a ways, grinding the keel strake down to about half its original height and scraping the rear bottom below the transom pretty good. I'm now glad I made a purchase offer that worked for me, cause I'm gonna need some of the extra $$ to put things right. My re-power will likely not happen this year, so maybe I'll purchase a 4-6 HP kicker as "get home" insurance. New bow rail and anchor roller are on hold, as are any new electronics. Luckily I still have fenders, jackets, handheld VHF, mooring lines, etc. from previous boats to get us going,. The cuddy bulkhead removal will happen as soon as I get time. I can see just by having crawled into the cuddy to clean it that the existing access arrangement is inadequate for our boating style. And there's always cleaning and waxing to be done! While cleaning her out and chopping out the old electronics I was able to start to come to terms with the vessel and imagine her ship-shape and out cruising through the San Juans. I hope to be at that point within a few weeks or so. thanks, Mike. |
