Having spent several winter nights huddled in the warm v-berth of SB, The Captain and I both came to the conclusion that the feed of the chain into the chainlocker needed to be plugged. A cold winter blast was keeping me up at night due to my cold feet.

Finally decided to have a fixed bulkhead installed to replace the snap-in vinyl sheeting. Got Gene at Mobile Marine East to do it and install a hatch too. This way we can use the area to stow the extra PFDs on board and also allow access when and if a wench is installed. Gene did a superb job and in addition to keep the summer smells of a wet line out it will also keep that blasting cold draft off my feet in the winter.

Yes, get the wench to do her job, and if she's not warm enough in her doings, just trade her in on a hotter model.
