For those of you in the southeast, you know it is shrimp season. Although I have not gone yet, I did see a few people casting off the dock at Mariner's Cay (Folly Beach, SC) and coming up with what looked like small lobster. I mean these are the biggest shrimp I have seen in a bucket or on a plate in many many years. I have heard they are the best tasting this year as well.

We are still moving in to our new place here in Charleston but I may HAVE to find the time to to take the Clara Mae out and throw the cast net some this weekend.

Doggone Michael,

Casting nets from a DOCK! for shrimp? Shoot fire, we're down 300 feet with powered pullers on board just to get the rascals.

Well I did catch a few last weekend, but I just imagine those cold water deep suckers you guys have make our biggins look pretty small.

Well I blew that one! Message became vaporware.

We do get nice shrimp here in WA waters -- 6-8 to the pound, and very tasty. Unfortunately many of the salmon fishing folks are switching to shrimping because of the restrictive salmon rules, and the limited non-commercial quota for shrimp is soon met. Electric or gasoline powered pot pullers are usual equipment on us older C-Dory folks. Pulling from 300 ft. or so is more excercise than many of us can handle.

We try to go early in the season and get what we need for the year - they keep frozen vey well. Yum!

Dusty,
We want to come over and go shrimping with you when the season opens. Shelley got excited when you described the shrimp that you were getting. I know we're jumping the gun, but when does the season usually open?

Lyle

It will be fun, and come join up. Shrimping is almost as much fun as salmon fishing, and almost the same challenge.

No better eating, and Shelley will love them. The opening of the season seems to vary year-to-year, but we should stay in touch on this one. The WA regs are usually out in plenty of time -- but closing times can not be predicted. Once the quota is met we're gone.

Cheers,

Dusty

Hot it was such a great day to be out on the water today. It was the opening day of shrimping today and we were out in force. we had to realy work at it , but were able to bring in our limits of spotted shrimp .
Tomorow is another day and we will try to fill our buckets once again. we have such a short window of a oppening that we have to make every day count. it will be down till Thursday and then we have th,fr,sat, and sun.
MMMMM MMMMM GOOOOOOOD

Rog,

We did fine too at Lopez. Two full baskets (who's counting!)

El and Bill.

Get up here! Now! We miss you. Start of a great season, and it's so much better with friends around. And Roger is right, the prawns we get here are fun to catch and soooo good.

Rock-C we are located up here off of Camano Island and Whidbey Island.
Yes you will be wishin you have a power puller when you have that much line out....lol....
there was a boat out there yesterday that did not have any power except for armstrong power and they were tired pups after the second pull. they left early and said they would be back tomorrow with a pot puller on the boat....lol....

Hey Dusty glad to hear you did well too. did you go over to Iceberg Pt or somewhere else?????
we had to realy work at it and had to make about 6 pulls tom get our limits. the best we ever did on one pull was about 45 in 4 pots.
there was a lot of Indian comercial pots out here two weeks ago and so maybe it is slow because of that.
we were finding them mostly around the 265 ft level.

Roger,

They should have installed a stop/go light for the boat traffic off Iceberg. Not long ago it was just Dusty and a couple of other boats wondering what we were doing. GPS BAaaHH.

One pull limit. Nice size, but the season will be short with all the boats. Two "lost" pots - they were float-down for about four hours on the heavy flood, but full. We shrimp off Coleville (SE tip of Lopez) but the current is messy at best and local knowledge helps.

I'm boatless for a while (Les is about underwater) so bring Sensei over to Deception and I'll go out with you and show you where.

Hey there Dusty
OK by me.
we went out today and spent another day out gatherin them elusive spotted shrimps. we ended up about 3 short of our limits but had a great time. the weather was somwhat on the windy side today but the C-Dory likes that kind of water. about a 2 ft. chop all day long.made for some dificulty sidling up to the bouys to grab them.
Any Bad Day on the water is always better than the best Day at WORK!!!!!!!!

I was reading on the WSDFW web site that they have determined that the shrimp catch will be all filled by Saturday evening for about 5 of the areas. 8-1,8-2,9 , 11, and 12 I think.it will close to all shrimping at 9 pm saturday.
we get a grand total of 5 fishing days for spotted shrimp. what a bunch of B.S.
