|
Hey all,
Just installed my spanky Bennett 120 sport trim tabs today and when fixing the reservoir to the transom, it is not vertical at all....(obviously sitting at the same angle as the transom). Is this OK or do I need to shim it to be more vertical????
Thanks!

Mine is the same way, being mounted between the two fuel tanks and above the bilge pump. Works fine, just be sure the liquid level is between the full marks when the tabs are retracted. _________________

Thanks Dennis. I filled the reservoir before I mounted it and installed the level is on almost "empty". So, if I understand you correctly I need to "overfill" it so that mounted the level is correct right??
Thanks in advance!

Peter,
I believe Dennis means that when the trim tabs are fully retracted, the level should read full. Then when you extend the trim tabs, you fill the cylinders and remove some of the fluid from the reservoir in doing same.
You may also have to bleed the system to remove the air.
Hope this helps.

Peter,
We have a shim for the hydraulic power unit that will help you out with this. I think it's about 15 degrees. If you send me your address and phone number I would be delighted to send you one at no charge (other than shipping if I can't fit it in a mail bag).

Tabman Tom...what a great offer. Beware though, there are probably hundreds of c-dorys that have Bennett Tabs! You might have opened a can of worms. Don't worry though, I've got a TomCat and don't need the shim!
It's great to see the mfrs respond on this site!

Thomas,
The Bennett Auto Tab Control will not work with your Lenco Trim Tabs. The wiring for the two systems is completely different. The Lenco basically has to electric motors and the polarity is reversed on the wires to them to make them operate up or down. The Bennett system has one motor for the pump and two solenoid valves, one to operate each side. The motor for the Bennett pump does not reverse polarity to change direction, instead current is sent down one one wire to put the Trim Tabs down and another wire to bring them up.
Since the Auto Tab Control is designed to operate our pump motor and valves there is really no practical way to make t operate the Lenco system.
I hope this is helpful.

So the trim tab reservoir shim arrived on Friday- a big THANK YOU to Tom and Bennett & Co. for sending it to me. I installed the shim and the fluid level is near perfect AND an added bonus is the whole unit is easier to mount/unmount now. No more scraped knuckles! Yay!
Pictures are here:

As I mentioned to Tom offline, Bennett should make users more aware of this item-very useful. I am no trim tab expert but I like to have things done right, and if you are putting in tabs on your 22' or your transom is "steep"-I would strongly suggest using the shim.
Once again thanks to Tom the Bennett rep for seeing this through!
