This is just looking for a simple count of the major brands of choice for primary power. Two stroke, four stroke, EFI or carb, it doesn't matter. Neither does the age of the motor. Just the brand.
Since this is so contentious a subject, the poll forum should be used for nice comments only, lest we disrupt the peaceful Pub with a barroom brawl. The poll options are even listed in alphabetical order (with the exception of "Other", which is there in case someone is still running the old Scott-Atwater). The Yamaha was not listed last of the major brands to tick off the Fox.

I had to check other since you failed to put in Evinrude which has been around longer than any of the Nippon Denso Products _________________ Roger on the "SENSEI"

Don't know why this should be contentious, why, everyone knows that Honda will be the most numerous since you need two for reliability . . .
Seriously -- I've owned them all -- and they all have minor plus and minus points on accessories that can be argued, but the base motors are all fairly bulletproof now. |

Roger, the only reason I left Evinrude off was because it came before my precious Honda on the alpha list. Just didn't seem right. But, to be fair, I redid the list. Only trouble is, now everyone has to vote again. And if there's gonna be a barroom brawl, I want to be on your side.
If we have to add any more brands, we will need to consult the nerd to get it in the right spot on the list without messing up the vote totals.
Sorry for the oversight. _________________ TyBoo Mike

"Hey... you don't get to vote twice if you have twins, do you??"
I guess it doesn't matter, I'm seeing a distict pattern developing here, reflective of current society. You have the herd, and then you have the distinctive individualists, those who rise above the fray and take the road less traveled by . . . those who appreciate the finer things of life and aren't willing to settle for the commonplace . . .
Sophaclese, upon being greeted by an audience of just 8 citizens for one of his speeches said, "It gives me great pleasure to know I am speaking today to the most knowledgable citizens of society." Well -- I feel that way about the Mercury drivers . . .
(all the above is said in jest -- of course) |

When this poll surpasses the record of 74 votes set by the drain plug poll, it will be replaced by a new, more indicative poll. Like in: "If you were buying a new outboard(s) for your C-Dory today, which brand would you choose?" Same choices. Then we'll see if the Honda hating carb critics are as numerous as they are noisy!
Quote: | Don't know why this should be contentious, why, everyone knows that Honda will be the most numerous since you need two for reliability . . . | Actually, most of the twin Honda guys go that route because it is hard to hear just one Honda running.
Quote: | Hey... you don't get to vote twice if you have twins, do you?? | Nope - everyone gets to vote just once for their outboard(s). Honda really is that far ahead!
Quote: | (all the above is said in jest -- of course) | Yeah, me too. Except the next poll part and the Hondas being ahead. |

Mike, that even tops Les' "they just look so classy"

The current C-Dory sample shows a whopping 61% equipped with Honda for main power. That may be due in part to the CD folks historically suggesting Honda, but the margin (the next most popular in this sample is Yamaha with 13%) suggests something more than that. So, we are ending this poll and starting a new one. Now we'll see if there is brand loyalty.
Please take a minute to look over and vote in the new poll. |
