Ten years ago Brock (Bambina) set up the first C-Dory gathering at Langley, Wa. marina. I was wondering if there is any interest in doing something to celebrate 10 years with this great group? Any ideas would be appreciated.

I remember that. We were there. I still have the Brat sticker that someone name Lisbeth stuck in my boat! I also remember my first interaction with Catman. Me and old RedFox had just been booted from the C-Dogs and I emailed Brock to ask if he thought the waters up there were big enough for all the members in good standing plus the TyBoo. He said no, I was kicked out of the group and not welcome. Then a few seconds later the "just kidding" email came. If I had slugged the computer after reading his first email and not seen the second, you would all be wearing white jackets and apricot ascots instead of Carharts and Tilleys to these gatherings and I would have missed knowing some of the greatest friends imaginable.

Bill and I got an email from the Harbormaster at Langley a short while back wondering if we were planning anything there this year. Here's what he said:

Quote:
Happy new year C-Brats!

Thought I should check in to see if you are panning a Langley Cruise this year. We always look forward to your visit. We are scheduling club cruises for 2011. To help make it eventful, we are working with the locals to help provide new experiences for our guests. We can help you plan an eventful cruise with activites such as Glass Blowing with a local artist, Chocolate making, Horseback Rides, Scooter, bicycle and kayak rental, paddleboarding and golf to name a few. We can assist with ground transportation & dining reserevations, spa packages and tickets to the theater or movies.

To schedule your dates, please email me with your choice of dates, along with a alternate date to Harbormaster@portofsouthwhidbey.com.

PO Box 1233, Langley, WA 98260

I am not suggesting you do the huge 10th anniversary cruise there, but this sure seemed like a good spot to pass on the info and it was a good reminder that both Bill and I forgot to do so earlier.

Thanks for remembering and reminding, Fred.

Can us short-timers (a mere eight years) celebrate too?

Now hold on ... it was 2002 when I made my first trip up there, so maybe I did not make the first ever gathering. But the story I posted is good and true, so I guess it fits. At least it was Langley. You mean you guys had been doing this a whole year before I found out about it?

I would propose a 10th anniversary celebration in Langley! Laughing Being involved in the Sequim gathering, I would nominate Brock to be the head honcho. We have enjoyed Langley a few times in the last 2-3 years. What a great little town.

Maybe we could schedule it for after the Broughton Gathering?( July-August) Thumbs Up

depending on date we are in. love Langley. with that said I am not happy with the harbor master last year. or maybe the rules he is following. Langley is close enough that we will sometimes run over for dinner with out of town friends. last year we where turned away twice because we did not have enough room. In the past there was always enough room even if there was not room. No more side tying for dinner. I really did not like being turned away when there where empty slips that had "reservations" but were empty at dark.

OK here is the REAL SCOOP on this first gathering. Brock and I were communicating on the C-Dog site and he suggested we have a 16' C-Dory Gathering at Langley. (At the time we had a 16' C-Dory Cruiser). I said, "sure, sounds great", next thing Brock and I knew those folks with the BIG 22 foot C-Dory's started whining and wondering if we would welcome them to attend the gathering as well. Brock being ever the gentleman that he is said, "absolutely" (or words to that effect). Soon after, the Langley gathering commenced with the advent of extremely challenging weather conditions of high winds and tumultuous seas. This was the cruise, where our daughter who was about 10 yrs. old at the time said, "I don't know dad, but I think this is the perfect storm" as the green water went over the top of our "sweet 16 footer".
It was a super gathering and our first opportunity to connect faces with those wonderful C-Dory owners that we had "spoken" with on the internet.

We'd be in, assuming it does not collide w/ M's college classes. We love Langley and Langley Cafe' and it's a short hop for us out of Everett. We could dump some crab pots for an overnight soak...

Roger, yes you folks were most gracious in your request....I just worded the above that way to see who's "cage" I could rattle around a bit....LOL. Mr. Green ....It was indeed a terrific gathering and it is certainly ALL of the participants that make it that way!

When you come up with a date I will let you know if we can be there. I have never been to Langley and would enjoy the opportunity.

From the time I was at Langley, it seemed like a pretty small marina. If they don't side tie, how about double stacking, so we can get everybody in Wink Depending on date, and weather, would like to join too.

I'll try to make it but only if Brock will be there Wink. We haven't heard much from the catman lately. Actually haven't heard enough from him in the past 2 years. Perhaps we need some excuse to create a "splinter group" that would be more his size. Laughing
