I was just looking at EBAY and noticed 4 Dodge Sprinter Heaters...new ...listed...

The Sprinter is a fairly large diesel van with a Mercedes chassis...it has a diesel cabin heater....one that would work perfect in our boats...
I have a friend that has a Dodge Sprinter with one of the heaters...they are a stand alone heater...with nice controls...much like the Espar heater.

Joel,

I think the Planar Heater is made in Russia. I looked at them but decided on an Espar or Webasto. At $650.00 they may be OK but I bought an Espar for $720.00 and know what I got. They do have a nice control unit however, and free shipping.

Better Red (warm) than dead! Rolling Eyes

If I were in Russia or anywhere in the former Soviet Union during winter, I'd take a "commie heater" if it came down to it. Angry

Not much colder there than some parts of the U.S. and Canada, right now, though. Xmas Eek

Sorry for the "Political" comments!

I'd just like to point out that the commie era was over a few years ago. And my family outlasted those guys. My parents lost the revolution, and their kids are now enjoying the USA.

By the way, if you don't like commie heaters, what do you thing of the fact that the good old Atlas launch vehicle, made in the USA uses Russian engines?

Boris-

First of all, we were just funnin' around, so don't take the deprecating comments seriously!!! Just jokingly satirizing some cold war jargon and propaganda slogans.

Secondly, I congratulate you and your family for your victory over and outlasting the former Soviet regime, and your immigrating to America. Very glad to have you aboard, and especially here in the C-Brat world. Your education and experience adds greatly to our combined wisdom.

Yes...hence the Laughing in my post. No offense intended nor inferred. Life's too short.

Don't know the politics of it but if their heaters are as nice as some of their tennis players I would have one on my boat.

BOY HOWDY, and if I ever won the lotto, I'd buy me a Ural Patrol and stick one in there too

I have to agree with BC.... I would buy a Ural too..... in the past 5 years they have improved their quality to a point where they are now pretty nice rigs.... I don't know anything about the diesel heater, except in my friends van it works gang busters..... I sure would think that if you could find a Dodge Sprinter in a wrecking yard you could score the heater for a real smoking deal...

Plus parts are available thru any Dodge dealer.

Or... maybe one of those old gas heaters from a 60s Volkswagen? We had one in a bug that would burn your eyebrows off... if it didn't gas you first. Disgust

You better get one of those female type tennis players if you're planning on a tennis player keeping you warm. Embarassed

Ebespacher gas heaters. A functioning one is still pretty desirable by the hardcore guys. I also have a Stewart-Warner 12v one that came out of my '66 camper. It needs rebuilding but would still work. Finding parts is the difficult part and not worth the $$$ for me to rebuild it.

You know, I didn't take any umbrage at the commie comment, just wanted to remind everyone that Russia didn't find that a success and has now moved on.

And that the Slavs can do some good engineering, as we can.

Just to note that after the folks lost the Revolution they had to go somewhere and, thank God, they ended up in the USA. The US is chock full of losers, why else would you leave the old country?
