OH MAN those are awesome pics. I'm totally drooling. Unfortunately I'm still having engine problems. Can't say how envious I am of you guys. I expect to see one of those pics on the home page next month.

I agree with Dan, in the sense that it would probably be a good idea to have, at least some of the get-togethers, located in varying destinations that include some additional amenities such as "towns" were some alternate facillities are available, should the weather be uncooperative.
Whittier, Valdez are always good options, but I would be amenable to stretching that to any number of destinations accessible by road and water.

What kind of town type facilities are there in Tatitlek? That is kind-of sort-of in between Whittier, Valdez, and Cordova. There are some lodges up in Port Fidalgo that might be good meeting spots. I sat on a flight back to Anchorage with one of the lodge proprietors, and got his business card. I can find out more if there is some interest.

Good goin' guys & gals! If the Valdez Narrows pic of Third Byte doesn't end up on the front page, then the nerds ain't payin' attention! Wish we could have been there, so beautiful...And why do you need amenities such as a "town" when Dogon Dan's delivery service is available? Laughing

Not good (last I heard----that was last fall) Then again, I could be wrong again Teeth I read of the vill' in the PWS Guide; comments were to keep your visits short as to the very limited dock space.
I heard a boat hailing the vill last year, no answer... Neutral

Congrats on the safe and innerestin trip Beer be back latter to scope-out pix Wink

C-Biscuit seconds that motion. All in favor, say AARRGGGHH!

Wait a minute, we can only do this if 3rd Byte isn't here to defend himself...

We had a great time and wish we could have spent a little more time focused on the C-Brats and a little less on the fish. With the two girls and the rain, Alisha and I had enough on our hands keeping the crew morale up and the cabin interior a little less humid than a rain forrest.

Thanks to Dan for running the shootin match. Let's do it again next year.

A forest service cabin or something along those lines would fill the bill. We need a place, as Dan said, that we can get together, preferably under a roof, share some quality time and food. We have plenty of time to work that out for next year but it's not to early to start now.

My impression is that Tatitlek isn't that receptive to visitors, but someone else may have more information on that than I do.

Is the 4th of July weekend the best time for most folks or is there another perferable time slot?

I'm sure there are going to be some good ideas and options developing for next year.

Well I missed this one. Wish I could have met afew of you, but my weekend went about the same as yours. Rain and lots of dark clouds. I ended up breaking camp from Kenai Lake earlly. Fishing was really good after the 4th though and the weather improved greatly. I know most of you are all PWS loving people and I've spent some time there too, more if I were closer, but consider Seward as a possible destination. Seward's Silver Salmon Derby could be a possible gathering time. Anyhow just another possibility and if anyone ever needs a place to park their boat while they are in town just give me a PM or email.

Hello from the Sundog Crew,

Sorry I was only able to briefly be with the gathering but it was good to meet those I did and thanks a bunch to the DOGONDORY crew for the hats and the oven mitt.

We had a lot of fun heading to Cordova and am glad to have done it - if you would like to see the photos from the trip, the link is: http://www.alaskaphotography.com/2005trips/cordova

Cheers,

Great pix, Joe! The one that caught my eye was you guys SWIMMING up there ...we can't do that much down here - the water is too cold. Or are we just whiners and wimps?

Thanks Pat,

I was amazed at how warm the water was, especially at Naked Island. It is a little crazy, but it feels so good after a swim - I say just go for it.

Cheers,

Joe

Great pictures, Joe -- swimming and icebergs, flowers and fish, kids and porpoises, and ending with a rainbow -- what a treat! Thanks.

Ended up back at Naked Island deer hunting after exploring the northern part of Knight Island, Disk Island, Ingot Island, and Eleanor Island. There are actually several good overlooks where you can see a lot of the sound. There is also a good trail leading from Bass Harbor over to the McPherson Anchorage. It's only a five minute walk. There was an old 1000 gallon propane tank laying on the ground a couple hundred yards back of the beach in Bass Harbor. I would say it was jettisoned from a helicopter many years ago (oil spill debris).

For next summer, we might want to consider something around Knight or Eleanor Island.
