|
|
Now looking for suggestions on leaving the trailer in Kingston Ontario for two weeks.
Thanks to all for the suggestions on cruising the Rideau. Based on the excellent recommendations from several folks, we are now planning on trailering Destiny II to Kingston Ontario and taking the Rideau Canal to Ottawa. I'll take the train (~two hour ride) back to Kingston to get the trailer, return to Ottawa, haul there, then back by land to Vermont. Gives us more time in the Rideau which is clearly the heart of the trip.
Anyone have experience with launching and/or storing a trailer in Kingston Ontario?
Best

I'm also interested in any thoughts. I plan on calling the train station in Kingston to see if would be possible to leave the truck and trailer in their pay parking lot. _________________ 2008 CD22 Twin 50hp

We started from Kingston and left the trailer at Olympic marina for 6 weeks with no problems. I can't remember what the fee was and it was 4 years ago. We'd like to do the Rideau and that loop again some day- fun trip.
Enjoy

Bob has a meeting in Ottawa June 23-25, so thought of bringing Kathryn up and travelling (at least) on the Rideau. We'd love to hear more of what works (and doesn't work) for parking/launching/retrieving .
International C-Dory travelers.
Do we need to carry more than our passports and boat registration?
I assume our porta-potty is OK.
Does the dog need more than a rabies certificate?
Do we need to go somewhere to register that we are a US boat in Canadian waters?
Thanks!

We found parking in Kingston Ontario at Martin's Storage. They are located about a mile from the train station where we will walk to take the train back to the boat in Ottawa. When we get down to Kingston, it should be about a 3 mile run back to the truck which we'll just do on one of our runs.
Now I need to figure out where to launch the boat in Ottawa and if the lock wall will have space 2 days before Canada Day.
Any Ottawa knowledge out there? |

We will just have our passports, registration, and insurance docs.
From my understanding, porta-potty is not allowed, but not sure on the Rideau. We added the ability to pump out on our boat to be in compliance in Canada - but shouldn't need it on the canal.
No need to register the boat in Canadian waters |

A few years ago, when we did the Rideau, the closest launch ramp we found in Ottawa was "Dows Lake Pavilion Marina". That's at mile 3.6 which is on the canal side of the flight of eight. (1-613-232-5278)
That location has parking and is near public transportation. It's only 3.6 mi from the Ottawa Wall.

Finally getting our schedule ironed out. Looks like we will be launching in / around Kingston on Sunday Aug 7. Will plan to take two weeks to get to Ottawa and haul the weekend of August 20 - 21 Really looking forward to this trip. Now, we just have to make sure the water levels are down by then |

Third time I have looked at this thread since it started. Eventually I will learn that there is more than one Kingston in the "world". Finally I get it, You are not going to make Ottawa in 2 weeks from a Kingston (WA) launch. Maybe by trailer.
Have a great trip.

Thanks for the info Rick. Do you know of any marinas above the Ottawa locks? |

Found a marina to launch the boat and stay for a few days before we head out on the Rideau. The plan is for me and my son to drive the truck/boat out to Ottawa, launch the boat, put it in a slip, drive to Kingston, take the train back to Ottawa, wife will fly into Ottawa, then down the Rideau to Kingston.
The marina is Hull Marina that is located on the Ottawa River just outside the entrance of the Rideau Canal. They have a new boat launch right next to the marina and it looks like the marina is in the mix of the activities. Sounds like we'll have a front row view of the Canada Day fireworks display. |
