OK, we planned to go to Inati Cove on Lummi Island just across Bellingham Bay this weekend, but were deterred by the marine weather forecast and the TV weather forecast.
TV said rain and more rain. Marine forecast said winds 20 - 30 knots, wind waves 3 - 5 feet. Saturday was gorgeous, sunny sky, no wind, calm waters - we were kicking ourselves for not going out. Sunday (today) - I am not making this up - a snow storm, dumped an inch or more of snow and fog so thick you can't see 20 feet. No rain, no wind...the forecasts were both completely wrong, but at least we are no longer kicking our selves for not going out... _________________

Weather forcasts...arg...you're almost better off to use a weather rock (if the rock is dry, it aint raining, if it's wet, it's raining, if the rock is gone, the wind must be blowing real hard). we said heck with the weather and went clam digging yesterday. The digging was excellent and the weather fine, am bunkered up today as it's nasty outside _________________ Ken

Pat, had the same dilema, decided to go fishing Saturday, weather was sunny and little wind. I was going to stay the night but the weather report was to iffy so I bagged it. Glad I did. I not sure why they get it so wrong.

Yes sir! You're not making it up! We'd talked about taking R-Matey out this weekend but other things came up so we're glad we didn't as we've got some of the white stuff up here on the hill in B'Ham. Had been down to Marysville this morning & on the return trip the snow started coming down just about Alger. By the time we got to the south end of the lake on I-5, it was starting to stick. Temperature had dropped from 37 to 34 in just a few minutes & now Jeff (Channel 5) says to expect 28 degrees here tonight. BRRRR. Took a couple of snowy photos which I didn't know how to post here so they're on the last page in our album. Happy for the skiers but it really doesn't hurt my feelings if this stuff decides to disappear.

We ran out of twin bridges on saturday and ran into the anita marie. fred told us that blakley marina was the place to stay so we followed him there and got a slip for the night before going out fishing. don't know how fred did but we spent 5 hours fishing with out a hit. ran back to your slip in water so smooth susan never woke up from her nap until i hopped out with the lines. the managers of blakley were trying to get fred to stay and were really disappointed when he did not. nomma? and her husband invited us up to there rec room for drinks after dinner and we shot the shit with them and 3 other couples until 11pm. a really nice bunch of people. That night the storm came in with the wind and cold air. we were cold all night. It switched from rain to sleet to snow to rain again in the dark of night, hell i was going postal. We sat around the marina until 2 pm sunday waiting for slack tide. nomma and her husband, frank and his wife, chris and his wife plus us all ran back to twin bridges together. To tell the truth with the rain and wind it was not all that bad. crossing rosiro to the north end of cypress was the hardest and the only hard part was kepping up with three deep v-hull boats. we still ran across at 20 mph. after the top of cypress we turned south down the channel on fairly smooth water..ran about 25 mph and still fell behind. the worst part was the shallow bay leading to the swimnomish channel. we had to slow down to 14 mph for that part. all in all it was a good first trip to the islands for the susan e. we really enjoyed the company at the blakly marina. we will be heading back out there soon. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

Tom and Susan, it was nice to finally meet you. I fished for about two and a half hours, had one strike but no fish. I am glad I didn't stay overnight. I would have had to leave early and it sounds like the weather and wind along with the flood would have been exciting. I guess we will see you guys at the end of February.

Fred, I am sorry that i did not get to talk to you more. I was going to put something in the boat and then come look at your boat , but some one on the dock asked me about fishing and an hour later i noticed you were gone. We fished deer point on the south side of orcas island. There were a lot of fish schooled up just inside the tide rips but they would not hit anything. We will be back in the islands this weekend depending on the weather. hope to see you around. |
