Very well said Dan. That really hits home with me because I feel it and have lived it, but would probably have trouble expressing it as well.

They are an endless source of satisfaction, joy, companionship and trust and it truly runs in both directions. A special bond to be sure.

Dan,

This really hits home with me right now. We just had to put our German Shorthair mix down last week after 1 1/2 years of treatment for extreme allergies. He was a very loving, intelligent dog and I miss him alot. Eventhough it was hard to go through what we did this last year, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I too have quite the love for cats. Before I had kids, my friends used to joke that my cats were my kids. They bought me a coffee mug one time that says: Ask me about the cute thing my cat did because I'll tell you anyway!
I love all animals. When we were kids, we brought a goat home one time and asked if we could keep it!

Anyone read the book Dog Is My Co-Pilot, Great Writers on the World's Oldest Friendship? Good stuff. I really enjoyed the story by Pam Houston about her Irish wolfhound and the lessons the dog taught her about life. I laughed and I cried. Dan, your piece could be a chapter in the book!

we have two dogs .... i can relate to this topic .. lol ... the kid's claim we care more for the mutt's than them ... i get reading or on this cp and the younger dog has been back and forth and i don't read her at time's .... when she drops one on the rug i kick myself and apologize to the dog .... lol .. wc

No disrespect to you dog people, or bird people, or rodent people etc either. I am a cat person (maybe not THE cat guy!) too. And our cats are boat cats! Mine also like to help me type too - like right now! And play the piano. According to another post, I guess dogs can do that too! The cats do not speak dog though. They do try to speak to rodents and birds.
