OK...we are back home and had a great 4 night trip down to the Gulf. Enjoyed some world championship boat races, Bon Jovi and Brad Paisely concerts, much good food, a few beverages..... and some great fishing.

Got us some red snapper, yellow fin tuna, mullet and some shrimp too!

Will post a pic of our best fishing spot coordinates after I get the pic loaded up on my C-Brat folder....but, here is one now to get ya warmed up and ready to come down to the gulf.....

Sorry we were not able to hook up with the C-Dory boat we saw heading in and out of the Perdido Pass area....and could not read a name on the boat either....but rest easy....cause Brigner and myself had enough fun for an entire family!!!

Sounds like a good time. Now where's the pictures of the shrimp and fish? Not that you don't look great but I really want to see the fish. Wink

Hey Rick & Miss Donna!! ???That close to shore? What? You do not think I would take ALOYSIUS out to the tuna grounds area on the Gulf??

Well, you are correct on this particular trip...but, I know now how I want to rig her out for that trip.

You guys know how much I miss my buddy Don? He would have plugged the GPS coordinates on the pick above.....and saw...that it was back in the bay at best. In fact....we put our entire catch on the boat....on the hard....in the parking lot.

I thought when I saw Charlie on the link the laugh would not take long and the cat would soon be out of the bag....but, our Navy guy missed that detail....but, I followed his advise....and began eating!!!

See sign below......but..... we still had a blast!!!!!

Nice slight of hand! Or GPS screen in this case.

Actually many don't realize how close to shore the Tuna grounds are here on the Gulf Coast. It just depends where you launch from. If you don't mind trailering to Venice, Louisiana (2 1/2 hours from my house) you can be at the edge of the "Midnight Lump" just 12 miles off the mouth of the MS River from South Pass. Prime fishing grounds for Tuna. I have actually seen 16 foot aluminum flat skiffs out there in 600 ft of water. Sound kind of crazy, but I once made the Bay St. Louis, MS to Chandeleur Island run in a 14 foot aluminum but that is another story for another time.

When I first read your post, I went out to the boat and fired up the plotter cuz I knew something was rotten in Denmark...it had to be darn near on Main Street...I remember the numbers from our fishing trips there and thought that your numbers had to be something like a seafood restaurant... Laughing ...you guys are quite the jokesters! HA!

And as they would say....and now....for the rest of the story.

OK... we did fish but the catch was less than perfect as it was the first time I really took ALOYSIUS out a bit in the waters to see how and where I needed to put what type of equipment on the boat.

Changes to be made real soon are moving the controls from the roof down to the cockpit, add a couple of single fishing chairs with rod gimbals, and a bungee cord rid for the canvas top as to pull it back in a temp/stowed position against the hardtop section when working the rods with fish on. And, I now know how I want to modify the aft section to incorporate cutting table, knife/gaff holders and catch cooler access. This trip did produce a great amount of knowledge and gives me some winter projects for the boat to ready myself for real catches... and.... a trip to Venice area for sure.

Well, I had to give it a go....and Brigner and myself just thought it would be fun and wondered who it would be that posted the GPS coordinates as in the parking lot....but, it was within 100' of the stores own vessels. Also learned by the pound cheaper to just go thru the lines with one of the little ladies helping you and getting one of their deckhands to load the full cooler in the trunk....but hey...it was not as near the fun of getting out and getting the salt air and water knowing you were out there with friends loving life and the water.

Sweat Pea: I understand Jan-Feb is a good time for the humps? Will keep you posted if we make the trip down this year.

Byrdman....going to thaw out a couple of nice Tuna steaks for dinner!!

Have received two emails......asking me to fess-up a bit here.

OK...it was a great shopping day on the gulf rahter than a great fishing trip. We did fish, we did put fish on the boat, but, none of eaten. I was amazed at this shop. Next trip to the gulf for sure will have a pass thru the fresh catch counters.....PRIOR... to going out to eat dinner.

I think Brigner and I generally paid in the $100 bracket for the two of us to eat and enjoy a nice dinner out. I think we could have reduced our cost...and had just as good of time grilling the stuff up ourselves for about 33 cents on the dollar ......and would not have had to wear a collar shirt and/or shoes while we ate dinner....and no driving to boot!!

On the other hand, several of my friends who are serious fisherman and have been going out on every good weather weekend day, and reporting fantastic fisihing. Some of the best in years; big fish, and easy catches, close to shore. The special season will be over, and we will see what next year brings.
