Susan and i have the weekend to our selves and need ideas on where to go. We were thinking some were in the islands but at this time of year whats open? I know that some of the moorages are out of the water for the winter but the state web site does not say which ones. and there is the question of whats open for fishing. I know 8-2 opens tomorrow but what about the islands. The fishing thing i can look up on the wdfg web site. Any ideas. we would like to tie up to a dock this first time. I need a better anchor before i feel safe dropping the hook for the night. Whats open for food in the islands right now. are we limited to just friday harbor? So if you were leaving early friday and coming back late sunday where would you go? whats port townsend like this time of year? _________________ Thomas J Elliott

Blackmouth opens tomorrow in the San Juans. Sucia (Fossil Bay), Cornet Bay and Stuart Island (Both Reid and Prevost Harbor) still have their docks in. There are many places you can go in the San Juans. Fisherman Bay, Friday Harbor, Roche Harbor, Blakely Island Marina, Rosario, Deer Harbor, Snug Harbor. I will be fishing Friday and Saturday in the Islands and monitor channel 68. Robbin and I will be at Twin Bridges Friday night and Blakely Island Saturday night.

I envy you with all of the exciting boating opportunities up there in the NWest. I wish that thinking of places to go with the boat this weekend was a problem for us. Even though we're having a heat wave right now (30 F) here in SW Wisc., one can walk across the frozen Mighty Miss. and the door to the boat barn remains frozen shut behind a 4 foot snow drift. It'll probably remain that way for another 2 months. In the mean time, we're planning a week somewhere in Mexico, thawing out our bodies on the beach while sucking down "porciones y porciones de cerveza". Maybe some of the snow will melt while we're gone. Or.......maybe we'll receive even more! Have a safe and fun weekend!

Tom & Susan
Check out Jones Is. There is a nice protected bay on the north side. I don't know if they pulled the dock for the winter. _________________ Terry, Ann & Chloe

What Fred said about where to go. My choice: Stuart Island, either Reid or Prevost, my vote probably Prevost.

fred, do they charge to tie up at twin bridges? we are taking off friday after work but will not get up that way until after dark. twin bridges would be a good place to start from. do they have a launch or just the sling and do they have parking for the tow rigs? i have heard that parking over night under the bridge bu the small ramp is not a good idea. What areas are you planning to fish. I was just reading a book on the area and it mentions the north end of blakley and obstrution pass for black mouth. |
