I saw these mounting brackets on a Mad Mariner ad. Looks interesting and useful. A lot less obtrusive than a Scotty mount (when not being used as a rod holder.) Thoughts?

Doryman, many thanks to brining the V-Lock to the attention of the C-Brats.com community.
I would like to offer C-Brats members the same 15% off all orders through July 4th that I am offering on other sites.
Just enter C-Brats.com in the discount code at checkout.
When I was at the Atlanta boat show, my booth was across the aisle from a C-Dory dealer who had 4-5 there on display. They are incredible boats. Where most of the other boat dealers were sitting around waiting to talk to someone the C-Dory guy had a line of people almost the whole time.

I wonder how they would work around the cockpit/stern rail. _________________ Brian

Neat. I wonder of two of them would support the weight of a generator (on some sorta platform).

Intruiging design/idea. I need some way to hold a pot puller for shrimp. _________________ "We can go over there...behind the 'little one'....."

I'm not sure I'd go that route for a pot puller. You sure can put a lot of pressure on a mounting system with a put puller - especially when the pot gets hung on the bottom and you've got a reasonable size lever arm off the side of the boat. I've got an Ace Line Hauler and I'm beefing up the Scotty mount for it since in my experience it's not adequate. The V-locks might be adequate if you used two or more plus a strong mounting plate and lots of backing but you definitely wouldn't want just one mounted on the glass only side of the gunnel. Would probably work best if mounted on the top of the gunnel (which has I believe plywood inside the glass) and with some large backing plate underneath. _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

I noticed no word on capacity/max weight etc on the website. I can understand not wanting to set some arbitrary number with all the variables involved in mounting etc and the stupid things people do.
I am concerned about the loads/torque a puller could transfer down to the mount, but with the railings on the 25 in the way, mounting items ON the gunwale is nearly impossible. The only two spots available are just aft of the cabin bulkhead and they are needed for ingress/egress of the boat/cockpit. I'm running into the same issue in mounting my dinghy outboard. I have that one figured out though; it will involve adding a stanchion towards the bow end of the cockpit rail w/ a block attached.
The search continues. |

I am working with http://electra-dyne.com on a trap hauler modification for the V-Lock. Just got started and still in the design phase but should be available soon.
