Sorry folks for lack of pictures (at this time) in proper format to show how I constructed a forward facing seat in the Far West II. They will be coming once I get the placing bug figured out. One showing what I call the lower box is on recent photo activities thread.
Some background. I did a forward facing seat of sorts on my first 22' - 1996 model. In order to leave the table intact, I cut a swinging door in the port bulkhead, which allowed the legs to stick into the berth area. Somewhat functional but awkward.
This time I combined creating a sliding storage box and a forward facing seat together. It requires many steps as my pictures will show.
First, to visualize what I did, for 22' owners, remove the port seat cushion. What you have is storage space created by two sides of plywood, the side hull itself, and the bulkhead, connected by several braces to support the seat. Simple system but requires the annoying and tedious removal of the seat every time you remove it to get to storage.
I decided to split that box into two levels, the lower level box with a new floor which would act as a surface for sliding the upper box back and forth.
This was not a simple process, but it is not that complex for a reasonably handy person. The upper box contains a large drawer running on ball bearing slides, which instantly allows the drawer to be opened and shut, and negates removal of seat to get to storage. Once I get all the pictures sorted out, labeled, and in my album, you can seat how this all can be accomplished. Going to a track meet now. Edna and I will try this evening to get it all together for you to see.
